AR-15 for CSR

Hi all im thinking of taking part in the CSR comps when they come up later in the year and looking for advice on which gun I should go for.

I'm looking for a .223 - 5.56 straight pull with the side charging handle.

The main ones seem to be Southern Gun Company and Lantac. There was another but I forgot who they are by now :(

I have shot a SGC one before and was shocked at just how heavy they were. To be honest I struggled to keep it steady.

For those with a Lantac are they relativity light or at least compared with the SGC guns?

And while i'm hear whats the cost differences between the guns i'm only after a basic model nothing with all the bells and whistles.

I have seen a similar thread but cant seem to find it now so sorry if im repeating something.

One of the CSR competitor, Mark Bradley, puts AR-15 together & will understand exactly what you need for the discipline. The reputation goes that his rifles are first class and if you start shooting CSR you will see him every month if there is anything wrong with it. He can be a bit abrupt but he is a decent guy. If I were to get an AR Mark would be on top of my choice as well as a guy in Scotland that showed excellent customer services to me.

I'm into my second season and opted for a bradley arms AR. Nice bloke to deal with massive amount of experience with AR's and shoots the discipline.

Dave wylde also builds AR's and shoots CSR.

I have no experience of southern gun or lantac AR's.

My Lantac Raven is much lighter and better balanced than the SGC Speedmaster.

Lantac will be bringing a new rifle out in the next couple of months, a very good price which will include the bells and whistles, all you'll need to add will be scope, mount, mags and ammo.

You really should do a search, this has been done to death on here many times and AR threads usually end in tears and end up being locked.

You have a knowledge of the most rated makers, make the effort and try them out and then pick the one that suits you and watch out for catching the rampant AR partisanship that seems to infect people.

I find the SGC offerings a bit on the heavy side, as suggested Mark and Dave build and compete and we have Matt on this forum who also builds and competes.

My basic rifle cost me £1345 from Lantac, nobody at that time could sell me a rifle with a side charger for that kind of money. I supplied my own grip, stock, buffer and spring.

My Lantac is a very carefully thought out rifle, great balance. Bradley arms make excellent rifles too. Not much between them. If I were you though I'd wait to see the new Lantac in March, rumours are they'll be well priced and very light and accurate.

They're all AR15's and SGC make great accurate rifles but they are heavy.

Bradley or Lantac can both build you something lovely. If you get time, go see em both :)

Might be worthwhile thinking about a .223 Wylde barrel in a 1:7 or 1:8 twist, I have always found .223 Wylde to be very accurate and you don't have to worry about the can't shoot 5.56 through a .223 thing.

I shoot CSR regularly: winter league and Imperial.

I bought SGC for this and it has served me well, but if I knew then what I know now I'd get a Bradley Arms or Valkyrie (Baldie Dave).

Ditto on the 1:7 or 1:8 with .223Wylde chamber.
