O/U repair

Hi guys, so my friend has picked up the shotgun I was looking at getting, and has told me that all there is. Is a screw missing and the rib need a bit of soldering.

The screw, I can do myself that's no bother, either make one myself on the lathe at work or find one and fit it.

On the other hand, the soldering of the rib I'm wondering how easy it would be to do myself? I've done a fair bit of tig, gas welding and soldering before but was wondering if there's any special way of doing it? Or any other way to go about it? Had read that some people use an epoxy resin on it aswell?

Take a drive over to Tayport and see Chas Geddes.

Welding of pressure bearing parts removes them from proof. ...brazing is allowed.

Best consult a gunsmith, as per the previous answer above.

Tayport is a little far from me sadly.

I wasn't meaning I was going to weld anything, just stating that I have experience of welding etc so have steady hands and know about melting points of metals etc... I would obviously be soldering the rib as that seems to be the most common way.

However, saddler, know of any gunsmiths in central? The one my father used to use is long gone.

I do know someone who used an industrial adhesive (Heinkel I think) as an interim fix and last I heard it was still doing the job. Apparently he rang the Heinkel technical types, explained the issue and they recommended the adhesive to use. Obviously this is not an ideal and can never replace having the rib relayed properly however it is an alternative.

As far as I know, as I haven't actually seen the gun yet, due to being at work.. It's not came off, and I believe it's just a section of the middle that may have came loose and needing resecured, read a few bits of advice online, and just spoke to the said friend, who is going to reblue the barrels anyway. Little bit of a project to get me started
