"Fantastic Saigas and Where to Find Them"

#1 Post by SuddenlyMinotaurs »

or, more accurately; "Oleg has run out of Kalashnikovs - Hell Has Frozen Over".

I've gotten to the point where I need to start thinking about what to buy once I get my license. I may post a separate thread with a poll, just for funsies, but this thread is about a specific gun I'll be looking to purchase, as-and-when.

I'm very taken with the .223 Saiga, and I'd love to pick up the UK Straight-Pull variant. However, a cursory email to Oleg at RUSMIL, inquiring about price so that I can start putting a bit of pocket-money aside, insinuated that he would not have any back in stock for a long time.

Anyone have any idea if there's any hope of grabbing one for a reasonable price, if I don't go through Oleg? I'd go for a 7.62 version, too, but .223 is a round I'm far more familiar with.

Saiga rifles not available for export out of Russia, so when you get your FAC you may have to look for second hand, as an example found this on Gunsrtar, expensive as well for one thats 7 years old.

Also 2x Izhmash Ak47's in .223 for sale on gunstar. search straight pull.

Olegs Romanian and Bulgarian AKs are also good, I have two Romanians, and personally say go for a 7.62x39 as ammo is relatively cheap and 7.62 AK mags are cheap and plentifully (any milsurp mag will fit including drums).....plus the fact a 5.56/.223 AK is just wrong! :p

New Saigas aren't being imported as KalashnikovConcern is one of the named Russian companies on the sanctions list. :bad:

I didn't know that - does that mean that good used Saigas are increasing in value?

In Russia the retail price for saiga is little bit more than 200 pounds. May be it's better to spend some time with paper work, bye a ticket, and spent two days(1 day will be enough, but it's better to have a one day in reserve).

If you spent some time with paper work you will have no problems with buying and shipping.
At first you should prepare all papers for importing to UK. Than you shall contact with UK embassy in Russia and send a request for receiving a Russian licence. There is no limits for non residents for buying hunting weapons in Russia but you shall receive a licence.
