Yep, got some bits in my cart... not keen on folding stocks, so got the standard fixed one with cheek rest ($105), and a combo of pistol grip and forend ($88)

So you used Zahal.org then? My work is done, I spread the gospel of Zahal and not spending more than you have to, go forth and spread the word further of money saving for shooting hobbies. Did you get a recoil-reducing stock though if I may ask?
I've since removed the cheek riser as it was too far back for me, I have a long LOP being just over 6' 5" :) I affixed one of these further forward along the top using 2 part epoxy,

No, i went for the fixed version for a couple of reasons... 7.62x39 isn't the hardest recoiling round, and the rubber butt plate will still be better than the metal Cugir one. Also, with a scope, the idea of it getting closer to my eye under recoil scares me a little... having been "bitten" by a scope once, its not something I want to repeat..

Get a Russian field dressing and tourniquet off ebay, place field dressing (in packet!) on the stock and wrap the tourniquet around it......this is what the Russians did in Afghanistan as the one thing the average Russian feared more than being captured by the Mujahideen was bleeding to death.It will also give a better cheekweld with a scope and on a steel underfolding stock it also stops your cheek sticking to it when its -20c.

Out of curiosity what scope have you got?, if it's a POSP/PSO type with the rubber eyepiece the eyepiece will give the correct eye relief and there's no way the scope will bite you, even shooting 54r from the Dragunov my eye goes right against the rubber.

Its not an authentic scope, just a 4-9 x 44 I had laying around... my old eyes don't cope with iron sights very well nowadays, and I wanted to get a proper idea of how the rifle can group.
The shock-absorbing stocks have a spring inside so the whole rifle moves back against the spring when you fire it...
Assuming your shoulder and head doesn't move, but the rifle moves back towards them, there could be a bit of scope bite going on...!!

That stock doesn't sound like a "recoil-absorbing" stock......it sounds more like one of the US bump-fire stocks that allow a semi-auto to simulate full-auto fire.Why a recoil-absorbing stock would be needed on a 7.62x39 AK I don't know as there is very little recoil, if anything a GP-30 recoil pad (used on AKs with the GP-30 under-barrel grenade launcher fitted) would do the job much cheaper and also increase your LOP.

Incidentally AK stocks are shorter length due to the extra thickness of Soviet/Russian winter combat jackets.

I see, it just sounded like one in the fact the that the action/receiver moves back against a spring in the stock which must then move the action/receiver forward again under spring pressure which is how a bumpfire stock works.
