To such an extent that I don't watch TV/youtube or the like.

Life is too short, time is better spent study guns themselves and the many worthwhile books that have been written on the subject in the past.

Good point, I do have quite the firearms book collection too, including a great set of the authoritative Collector Grade publications, all eye watering expensive books, but invaluable for reference and research.

That's a delightful attitude to take with shooters less experienced.......

The only stupid (or silly / simple) question is one not asked IMO

We need to consider the absolute abundance of information now present out there courtesy of the internet, and determine which one(s) are correct.

Case in point: I have the Lee, Lyman and Hornady loading manuals and if I consult the Alliant Powder web site - for the same powder and bullet combo the loads between all four can be significantly different. So as a new shooter it can be incredibly hard to determine whose advice be it in the form of printed (paper versus online) or even video one should trust. So when you see a silly / simple question - perhaps try and see if from the shooters point of view, it's reassuring (rightly or wrongly) if some human answers your question as opposed to some faceless corporation or printed work or other such sources states a "fact".

It's the paradox of choice now, too much choice increasing uncertainy that the choice selected was in fact the correct one.

On the contrary nick. I've sometimes heard the comment that "I can't be bothered to read all that" which quite frankly I find quite insulting. I've also seen reloaders asking for data when they simply can't be bothered to read a reloading book and grasp the basics or can't be bothered to look for the manufacturers website.

Yup... give a fool a soapbox and people listen...they even kill each other over it, right or otherwise.

There is no such thing as a stupid squestion, just a stupid person who did not ask then blew themselves (or worse someone else) up.

If in doubt ask.

Mind you if they keep asking the same question or dont learn from others answers then...well...Darwin was wrong.

As a time served Sigs/Weapons instructor nothing really got a rabid reaction from me other than RF Burns (worth a smack to the individual concerned) near death experiences (beaten over nut with track pin or yellow stick...they were wearing kevlar so it was fine) and the piece de resitance the....

"Corporal....you know that bit about HF Propagation....well I did not quite get why we need to predict the working limits for the day".

Not in itself a silly question in the lesson...but asked afterwards when they have all legged it means that if one did not get it, they were not alone.

this means either

A. They are thick or more likely

B. You, the green demi god screwed up and either pitched it wrong or badly.....

So, never be afraid to ask (at least once)

I am just about to embark on a new direction as a CFAV with the ACF so no doubt I will be learning all about pitching things correctly.
