Deer Stalking… reliable word of mouth recommendation from someone you know has undertaken such stalking being offered by a specific syndicate is best. Like other walks of life, stalking has its scammers. E.G., make sure there is deer, of the species sought, on the land being made available; that appropriate insurance is in place; that there is recourse for recompense if it all goes wrong. In addition, obtain and understand terms and conditions; consider the implications of allowing a syndicate leader to be a FAC mentor; make sure ‘coaches’ are suitably qualified; consider the quality of deer management, the construction & execution of a shooting plan and safety; determine if the land is over-shot.
If in doubt, contact BASC or similar.

Floods are caused by the shooting industry
Apparently the latest spate of floods are all down to the shooting industry.
Re: Floods are caused by the shooting industry
A convenient scapegoat me thinks.
A good article in Breitbart explains that a lot of the problem can be attributed to the EU's environmental policy which prevents the dredging of rivers:
Hardly welcome reading for Guardianistas, so lets have a pop at grouse shooting.
A good article in Breitbart explains that a lot of the problem can be attributed to the EU's environmental policy which prevents the dredging of rivers:
http://www.breitbart.com/london/2015/12 ... -disaster/Instead, the emphasis shifted, in an astonishing reversal of policy, to a primary obligation to achieve ‘good ecological status’ for our national rivers. This is defined as being as close as possible to ‘undisturbed natural conditions’. ‘Heavily modified waters’, which include rivers dredged or embanked to prevent flooding, cannot, by definition, ever satisfy the terms of the directive. So, in order to comply with the obligations imposed on us by the EU we had to stop dredging and embanking and allow rivers to ‘re-connect with their floodplains’, as the currently fashionable jargon has it.
And to ensure this is done, the obligation to dredge has been shifted from the relevant statutory authority (now the Environment Agency) onto each individual landowner, at the same time making sure there are no funds for dredging. And any sand and gravel that might be removed is now classed as ‘hazardous waste’ and cannot be deposited to raise the river banks, as it used to be, but has to be carted away.
Hardly welcome reading for Guardianistas, so lets have a pop at grouse shooting.

Written by the same Monbiot who champions "rewilding" and not doing any land management, coincidentally.

I'm not clicking on that link, I might get infected with 'Libtarditis'.

What a load of bollox.
If those rivers were twice as wide they would not cope with runs of water 100m wide.
Dredging, a river is only as wide as the narrowest point ie,every bridge or manmade obstacle.
What difference does heather burning make? Am I missing something there?
Trees- they can only drink so much water, and not much at all in their dormant season.
This is anti shooting people jumping on the flood bandwaggon or barge.

Re: Floods are caused by the shooting industry
i saw someone talking about dredging, they were saying it would make it worse, as it would increase the speed of the river, as there is no sediment / trees / shopping trolleys which slow the water flow. like how a hose behaves. To me, that is what you want it to do isn't it?
pour a bucket of water down a garden hose, low volume - high pressure stream.
pour a bucket of water down a fire hose (approx 3" bore?) high volume - low pressure.
so wouldn't that mean that the river flowed the water away, rather than swelling?

Re: Floods are caused by the shooting industry
Well logically it wouldn't have filled as quick, water would have gone quicker and possibly not caused as much damage, sadly the Environment Agency is in the thrall of EU Diktat's and staffed with the kind of Anti-human green's who are funny in Kingsman but not funny in real life.bradaz11 wrote:i saw someone talking about dredging, they were saying it would make it worse, as it would increase the speed of the river, as there is no sediment / trees / shopping trolleys which slow the water flow. like how a hose behaves. That and money uk for flood defenses (the shoemaker's children went without shoes while we jacked up foreign aid sadly ).dromia wrote:And here was me thinking it was due to a lot of rain.
At this point in the time all the Conservative party can say in its favor is.... it's better with money than Labour. How long that illusion remains to be seen.
