It's a shame, for us & democracy as a whole, that the UK shooters did not elect more of such MEP's displaying that level of common sense ...

Are you a member of BASC, they seem to be proactive on this issue & I've received an email from them regarding their proposals.

'Following recent terrorist atrocities the European Commission has published a set of proposed changes to the EU Firearms Directive.

The proposals include :
• Introduction of a five-year ceiling to certificate life
• Introduction of a standard medical test for applicants
• Bringing collectors and sound moderators within the scope of the directive.
For a full outline of the proposed changes and how they might affect UK legislation see our Question and Answer page on the BASC website here:

The proposals are currently subject to process and scrutiny. BASC has already identified discrepancies and contradictions in the proposals and has called for a separate legal instrument, rather than the Firearms Directive, to address the issue of illegal use of firearms.

Whatever the mechanism, BASC believes that an impact assessment will help policymakers agree actions which are outcome based and which avoid unintended consequences which harm legitimate firearms users.

We will work tirelessly with policy makers to ensure that bad laws are not imposed on shooting and law-abiding citizens.

To that end BASC is engaging with the following organisations:

•The Home Office
•The Department of Justice (Northern Ireland)
•The Federation of European hunting associations – FACE – which is in direct contact with the Commission.
•Sister organisations including the British Shooting Sports Council (BSSC)'
Member of Basc and no email or anything from them?

Got this from my MP .........

Dear Mr Clark,

Thank you for writing to me about proposed EU changes to firearms classifications. The events in Paris last month were horrific and it

is important that in the wake of these monstrous actions we pursue the guilty and bring them to justice.

However, I believe it is important to resist the urge to overreact and punish the law abiding through knee-jerk political reactions. I do not

believe that had the European Commission proposed measures to tighten gun controls across the EU been in force that this would have had anyeffect on what happened in Paris.

None of the weapons used there were legally held by licensed residents. They were illegally acquired and illegally used. There are many law abiding citizens who use firearms either professionally or recreationally. There are others who collect decommissioned guns, or replicas thereof, perfectly legitimately. I am a supporter of both groups.

The Commission's proposals will now have to go through the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament and will no doubt be subject to change and amendment. I will certainly be considering any attempt to tighten gun controls very carefully before voting on them in the

European Parliament next year.

Yours sincerely,

Ashley Fox MEP

Dear Yves,
Thank you for writing to me about this issue.
My UKIP colleagues and I will be voting against this as it is a matter that should be decided by our democratically elected Parliament and government not by the EU.
The only way that Britain can protect itself from unwanted EU legislation is to leave the EU. I hope that you will vote accordingly in the Referendum when the time comes.

Yours sincerely,

Gerard Batten MEP
UKIP London

Does he have a point or does he have a point ? O:-)

Hey Froggy

I like Mr Batten - no sitting on the fence with him !!

But (with me) he's knocking on an open door with respect to the referendum and my vote

Hello all,

For those that haven't seen it here is a link to the full proposal, I think it's the full proposal. It's a link taken from the firearms UK web site.

Only 21 pages......
If guns cause crime, then matches cause arson.

The reply i receved from a Northern Ireland MP.
I have noted carefully the points that you have made about EC proposals in relation to introducing a ban on civilian owned semi-automatic rifles. Having been briefed today as a member of the Privy Council on the current security situation and the serious terrorist threat facing the UK, I am very much supportive of the need to take reasonable measures to protect British citizens. However, the introduction of such a ban is not a measure that I consider necessary or prudent. Therefore, I would be inclined to oppose it, unless the Government and security agencies can make a compelling case to justify any such ban.

As you have stated, terrorists don’t recognise laws anyway and are able to acquire illegal weapons in Europe and elsewhere. What the EC needs to do is work out how to secure the porous borders of the Schengen free travel area to prevent these terrorists moving themselves and their weapons at will into Europe.

I am meeting the Prime Minister tomorrow to discuss the current terrorist threat and will seek to raise this matter with him
