This reminds me of a conversation I had with a rifle builder a while ago, we were talking about cutting fluids for chamber reaming, my take on it was the sulphur content of the oil and he replied something along the lines of "I use Ravens blood" For one brief moment I thought it was a new cutting oil until he laughed and said well that's what we need people to think.

None of this is a dark art, it is just a matter of common sense, a degree of mechanical empathy and approaching the job logically.

I'd love to get into this type of machining and creation of bespoke equipment. It frustrates in my workplace I am surrounded by hi-tech CNC's, grinders, lathes, you name it, however none of that can be used for any sort of personal use because we manufacture metallic medical devices, thus it would be a catastrophic non-compliance if anything other than these devices were to be machined by these machines...
