Re: EU to propose banning semi auto "weapons"
I'm led to believe they have changed a bit since then so don't bash them for advising people to sign a petition. Anyone know what the NSRA is doing to protect the semi-auto .22lr rifles?
Re: EU to propose banning semi auto "weapons"
The sorts of weaponry used in the attacks in Paris in January, and those that appear to have been used last Friday, are not readily available in the UK.
Silly wording to say the least ... What the NRA call "the sort of weaponry" is Full-Auto automatic rifles which are already classified as Category A. Possession of Cat A is illegal in all Euro-states but in some very rare exceptions making them only available to terrorists & hard core criminals.
The NRA should realised & make very clear that part of the proposal has absolutely nothing to do with reducing the availability of weapons used by terrorists but is primarily about starting to take civilian weapons away from legitimate, law abiding licenced users

Nothing I guess. As I keep telling you, only the shooters at individual level have the power to bury their "representatives" in Bxls under mails & letter to make sure they don't support the proposal.

Regarding the NRA I am still awaiting evidence of this much vaunted change beyond Bisley.
Regards the NSRA from recent experience I hold them in even less esteem that I do the NRA.
Still no point in further discussion as there are none so blind as those that will not see.

Sweet F All I'd guess! (and I'm in the disenfranchised Shooting Council).Marmite5 wrote:I'm led to believe they have changed a bit since then so don't bash them for advising people to sign a petition. Anyone know what the NSRA is doing to protect the semi-auto .22lr rifles?

Re: EU to propose banning semi auto "weapons"
Well I'll stick with the track taken by the NRA as it seems a very measured and controlled response and along the line I was thinking anyway. I recommend you all sign the petition that they have advised you do to support our European friends and let the NRA, NSRA, UKPSA, NTSA, CPSA and BASC do the talking over here as that what the members pay them to do.
Re: EU to propose banning semi auto "weapons"
let the NRA, NSRA, UKPSA, NTSA, CPSA and BASC do the talking over here as that what the members pay them to do.
Yes they will do, as they done in the past, ie, run for cover and
- the BASC will do anything to protect the side-by-side tweed brigade,
- the CPSA will do anything to protect the over-under brigade,
- the NSRA views anybody shooting anything bigger than 22lr as mad,
and,
- the NRA can hardly issue a membership, let alone talk for its members ...
How more deluded one can be ?

That's why we all have to speak, from what I'm seen German organisations and Eastern European countries and even some governments like Poland and Finland have spoken out. Best to let them know they aren't getting no resistant Froggy, are you of the same mind as me?froggy wrote:let the NRA, NSRA, UKPSA, NTSA, CPSA and BASC do the talking over here as that what the members pay them to do.

Re: EU to propose banning semi auto "weapons"
I don't necessarily disagree with you, but...
presumably you mean: "what the Home Secretary calls...", not "What the NRA call...". Those are her words, not the words of the NRA.froggy wrote:The sorts of weaponry used in the attacks in Paris in January, and those that appear to have been used last Friday, are not readily available in the UK.

Has there been any concrete information that the terrorists used fully automatic firearms? I've only heard single shots in the clips I've seen, apart from bursts during exchanges with the authorities, which sounded like they came from the authorities.froggy wrote:..."Full-Auto automatic rifles"

Just survivor's reports of automatic fire & the absence of jubilant declarations from the Antis groups pointing to the use of legal semi-auto.
Well ... shooting is the 3rd most popular sport in the Czech Rep and a proud producer of fine firearms so I'd expect a lot of "resistance" from there. But equally the EU had no problem openly bullying, blackmailing and trampling over the will of this small country over its stance on the immigrants issue ...
France is a bit like the UK. Every single shooters group is ready to sell over the others in the times and times over mistaken belief their shameful collaboration will spare them. Thanks fully, the French National Federation was so useless that, when we had the last big fright in 2011, a pressure group, UNPACT, was formed by grass root shooters. We applied pressure with countless petitions and writing to MP's and despite the total apathy of all "official representative bodies", manage to save the day .
This time, all of us, European shooters, are facing an un-elected & un-accountable EU body with a very clear cross-borders anti-guns agenda & limitless resources, hell bent on manipulating public opinion to achieve their goals.
Sometime I can't believe & despair how shooters are such willing participant in their own demise & incapable of taking charge of their own destiny.

Re: EU to propose banning semi auto "weapons"
I wasn't into shooting when the tragedies of Hungerford and Dunblane happened, but I've read a lot about the aftermath and how it affected the sport for decades afterwards. Whilst I appreciate it isn't quite as simple as this, but apathy and a lack of a unified voice are still partially blamed for the loss of centre-fire rifles and pistols. Why would you knowingly make the same mistake twice?
