Seriously do you really think that in the EU they are bothered about .22LR rifles, the most that is likely to happen is that there will be tighter controls on the transfer and licensing of firerams in Europe. They have bigger fish to fry that taking away .22LR rifles.
Re: EU to propose banning semi auto "weapons"
Possibly but very very low, we have some of the tightest and most restrictive legislation in the EU and its far more likley that the EU will move towards our model than for us to start to be even more restrictive. I would guess that if there is to be greater harmonisation across the EU then it is more likely that our restrictions might even be eased as the rest of the EU gets more restrictive. Big panic about nothing for us here at home.

Any tighten of legal firearms legislation is a threat to us, look at the tightening in the US and how that has increased the difficulty in getting shooting related stuff European legislation will effect us as it will further diminish the market.
I think shooting is more likely to die from indirect approaches, just look at the lead ban proposal which we hear very little of and from what I see our representatives seem to be negotiating over the timescale of implementation rather than the ban, all intrusions on legal ownership of firearms needs to be resisted if we wish to continue owning and shooting firearms.

As far as I can see, for the UK, this is a big fuss about nothing.
Really ?
I guess only an air rifle shooter would not be too concerned. For anybody else, it means no more 22Lr CMMG, no more S&W 15/22, no more LBP, no more SA Shotguns like VEPR 12 or Bora etc... etc...
And that would actually the best case scenario. Be under no illusions, there are a lot of countries in the world, like Japan, where there is a total firearms ban. Nothing is allowed - Full stop.

I guess a lot of 22Lr pistols shooters thought exactly that after Hungerford... But of course if you trust an unelected commission made-up of gun-haters with unlimited resources & power and decide to give them a free-ride, please do carry on believing it is a big fuss about nothing & you'll be ok.

Re: EU to propose banning semi auto "weapons"
I might agree with you if the UK weren't already reviewing firearm laws, lets just say the timing couldn't be worse. I'm of the opinion obsolete calibre firearms will soon have to be on ticket and lever release/MARS rifles will be under heavy scrutiny. It wouldn't surprise me if LBR/LBP's and S1 shotguns like the Vepr-12 were put under the spot light as well.
IMO it's better to prepare for the worst and hope for the best, than be unprepared for what might be coming.

I’m not convinced by all these conspiracy theories and its very unlikely that most of what has been proposed will ever get on any statute books. It is nice to see that at least one of the petitions set up has had a good response from Europe though.

I don't see any conspiracy theories but I do see antis taking advantage of every opportunity they can and making the most of the fact that gun ownership isn't defended never mind positively promoted on national levels.
It isn't the antis that are the problem it is the lack of proactive defence and promotion of gun ownership that is the real problem, there will always be people looking to ban guns and our lack of organisation, visible presence, positive advocacy and resistance to naysayers that is the real threat.
Our weakness is their strength.

It is not a "theory". It is very real. If not opposed, it will be will voted in. Fact.
This proposal was planned long before Paris' events when there was absolutely no security need for it. The awful truth is that the Anti-Guns brigade is unashamedly using IS' attack as a golden opportunity to sell it to the public and trying to sail un-opposed through the books thanks to the guns-owners' total apathy & lack of coordination.
Once this is achieve, judging what an easy target the gun-owners are, what do you think will happen next if a bolt action is used ? Marmite's safe will empty for good before you can say "conspiracy theories, I am alright Jack"
