The Chinese Type56's also have a unique rivet pattern on the front trunnion that no one else uses and the majority of Type56's use the AK-47 style gas tube with four vent holes, whereas the standard AKM pattern rifles have the vent holes located on the gas block itself.
A classic shot of a Type56 in a film is the scene in Full Metal Jacket with the Vietnamese female AK equipped sniper, in one shot there is a view where the front sight arrangement can clearly be seen, see below.....
And before anyone says it.......I know the NVA and Viet-Cong received thousands of Type56's from China so the scene in Full Metal Jacket is historically accurate with regard to its use.
