Received an interesting gift...Soviet trench art.
I was given a nice surprise today......a petrol cigarette lighter made from a 7.62x54r case!.It was made in 1986 during the Soviet Afghan war and was given to me by a friend at work who was a VDV trooper and it is made from the case of the round he shot his first Mujahedeen with!.He kept the case and on returning to base in Kandahar he got the section armourer to make a lighter out if it.As such I would say it is pretty much unique, especially with the story behind it and feel very privileged to now own it.

Interesting, especially given its history. I have a lighter made from a .303 somewhere.

I have a particular interest in Soviet Afghan era kit and this is the icing on the cake and will be treasured.Incidentally the case is from Factory 60/Frunze (Bishkek) and is 1983 dated.....

Now that is something special. Almost worthless apart from the handiwork in many ways until you add the story, then its priceless Rich.
Many thanks for the bits you helped me out with by the way, top man, I owe you when we finally collide.

And you're right about the lighter, it's the story behind it that sets it apart.

That's a great present, but an even better story!
