How is NRA-affiliated "club" defined?

Rifle club? PSG club?

Any club that the NRA has accepted membership from. If in doubt phone their membership section. They like money

Do you have to have 'slots' for Sect 1 shotgun as per rifles? I'm in a position to buy a Sect 1 shotgun but I don't yet shoot PSG/Target (although I intend to).

Can someone also clarify the posts above? From them, I'm assuming that my application can be:

Sect 1 shotgun(s) please.
I'm a member of an NRA-affiliated Rifle Club

PSG was good enough reason for S1 shotgun + slug in Devon & Cornwall. It's slotted as per rifles.

Yes, you need slots as per rifles. Any shotgun with a magazine capacity of more than two is a S1 firearm, and requires a slot for each S1 shotgun you want.

If your club is affiliated to the NRA (your club secretary will be able to tell you this if it's not already clear),and you wish to shoot Target Shotgun at Bisley (which PSG falls under in NRA world) then that is your good reason for a S1 shotgun.

If in doubt, give your force firearms team a call, it's what they are there for :)

If you want to shoot Target Shotgun as Bisley, it's well worth doing one of the intro days. 12th and 13th December are the next dates.

Any other q's, just ask :)

I have S1 shotgun+slug simply for target shooting at a HO approved (ie. not NRA or anyone else affliliated) club that has a range suitable for their use.

They really are just like any other firearm (aside from the whole "letting others use them" and "can't be club guns" things) in terms of good reason. I have no idea why people continue to spout these "need to be a fourislands member/need to regularly attend PSG matches/need to be a member of a PSG club and shoot competitions/etc." stories.

That said, I do have a trip down to Dorchester for some PSG-type shooting planned. And I am looking forward to it :D

ETA: We had this last time someone asked (Blighty).

While the above is correct in principle, in reality not all forces are the same, and many forces are fussy when it comes to S1 shotguns.

If when you have your chat about your variation for a S1 shotgun you are asked about where you plan on shooting it, and you reply with 'a HO approved club' you *will* be pressed for more details. It wasn't long ago, that you could only get a S1 shotgun for target shooting if you were a member of the UKPSA. Thankfully, that is no longer the case, and the wording in the guidance states the following for conditions:

The SMOOTH-BORE GUN/SOLID SLUG shall be used for practical target shooting:
(a)
The smoothbore gun(s) to which this certificate relates shall be used for target shooting
on land or ranges where the holder has lawful authority to shoot (provided that adequate
financial arrangements are in place to meet any injury or damage claim), for disciplines and
courses of fire approved by the BWSS or NRA or NTSA or UKPSA.
(b)
The solid slug ammunition to which this certificate relates shall be used for target shooting
on ranges where the holder has lawful authority to shoot provided that adequate financial
arrangements are in place to meet any injury or damage claim.

*Scratches head*.

"Where do you plan on shooting your S1 shotgun?"
"At my club xxxxx, where we have a range that is "cleared" for shotgun slug".

Not really sure what "more details" the FEO would be after, nor what I could give them, nor why that wouldn't be good reason?

The way this seems to be going, as alluded to by KFBill upthread, is that bunging twenty quid to a group of blokes on the internet holds more weight than the above situation?

As I've said before, the entire S1 shotgun situation is extremely ridiculous and they should be formally "bumped" back onto parity with any other S1 firearm (such as my 10+1 .308....)

I was referring originally to SevenSixTwo and his question about NRA affiliation. If his own club shoots PSG on their own range, I would guess he probably wouldn't be asking about NRA affiliation.

I wasn't referring to your club, and your situation. I was responding as above on the information given, and the question asked.
