Variation done quickly but reduced ammo allowance?

I had my ammunition holding reduced at my last renewal because the FEO pointed out that I couldn't fit all my allowance in my ammunition safe (I store several bolts in there as well). I didn't bother me too much as I reload most of my rounds anyway, but now I have new safes and more room I shall ask for an increase on next renewal.

why? you dont have to fulfil all your allocations at once. i have 700 of about 6 calibres and 200 slug, but i couldnt fit all that in my cabinet. BUT i could fit 200 slug in, along with 200 of the pistol calibres and 100 of each rifle.

I'm only breaking the law if i buy more ammo than i can fit in the cabinet and then store it outside the cabinet. where does it say my security must be able to handle that volume of ammo??

its a bit like shotguns, they give you a ticket, if i have a 3 gun cab, i could go out and buy 5 shotguns, but ive gone over my security... but i could go out and have 5 shared shotguns on my ticket, but until i have them all at home, i'm doing nothing wrong, yet i'm not limited to only sharing 3 shotguns on the off chance i might have all in my possession at once!

I guess I thought the UK 'regime' was somewhat more draconian than it actually seems to be. Obviously, I was mistaken. :)

I met someone who's FAC allowed purchase of 50 rounds of .22lr & holding 100 rounds of .22lr...and he was almost prosecuted for having 5 rounds over the limit on an inspection....

So, am I wrong in thinking that the numbers I have seen in this Thread are typical? Are quite small numbers, like your example, more the norm??

from what i've seen in the past, the norm is around 300-500 CF ammos, with 500 - 1000 RF ammos for target shooters.

stalkers seem to be lower on limits for CF but larger RF.

slug seems to be a complete gamble, i have 200, others have 50, others still have 1000

I think i'm very lucky as my police force seem very pro gun

My FEO wouldn't grant my FAC until i had enough storage for ALL the ammo i'd applied for. While an offence doesn't occur until the ammunition is not securely stored, it makes sense that you should have the capacity to do so before they authorise you. They're probably imagining the news reports "Police approved shooter for 3000rds of ammunition when they knew the shooter could only safely store 1000". Wreckless police etc etc. Doesn't look very good does it. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Is there an explosive quantity limit that has to be complied with for H&S?

There is with shotgun cartridges which is 10,000 (although its a fire precaution rather than explosive). Not sure about metallic cartridges. An RFD with a shop should be able to tell us....

I think there is a limit on powder and that also may apply to the total held in complete rounds.

25 Kg looks like the limit on powder.

Ohpps, looks like that's 5kg unless you are registered with the local authority and LAFB. The 5kg includes the powder in loaded ammo as well.

Do the Firearms Licensing Departments take the potential amount of powder stored in ammunition into account when determining maximum amount to be held, by my reckoning it wouldn't take that much to go over the 5kg limit are require registration with the LA.

Shooters powders are 10kg and small arms ammo/primers are 15kg
