Maybe your quest would have been easier if you'd tried to get cast bullets instead of boolits? :D Where did that ridiculous word come from?

It comes from the name of the premier cast bullet forum on the internet Cast Boolits.

Long ago on an internet far away we used to have a cast bullet group on the old .REC message boards, that then moved to the old Shooters.com where we had a cast bullet forum, we then moved to the Aimoo boards with a dedicated Cast Bullet forum. On the closing down of that forum Willy from gunloads.com offered Shooters contributor Ken Caldwell space on his server for dedicated cast bullet forum so Ken and Willy set it up and we moved there. The name Cast Boolits was just a bit of fun that we had at the time especially as it irritated the more conservative and "establishment" cast bullet people over on the Cast Bullet forum so we just called ours Cast Boolits so as to avoid confusion with the Cast Bullet association forum and the name has sort of stuck.

The Cast Boolits forum has gone from strength to strength over the years with now nigh on 39,000 members and nearly 3 million posts.

I was aware many years ago of a guy in the USA who started a business making cast bullets and I believe used the word "Boolits" as part of his business name. That I can cope with as it was catchy and made you remember the business. But as an everyday usage I'm afraid it sucks IMHO. Kind of like people who load their cartridges with "heads". Just my two pence worth.

It was/is just a piece of fun and no-one is suggesting that cast bullets must be called boolits it is just used on occasion in that spirit. Nothing wrong with a bit of fun and if people don't want to play then they don't have to, at worst it can be dismissed as poor spelling.

The misuse of head as in bullet heads however has the potential for dangerous confusion and its promotion should be resisted.
