How early to send renewal?
I've just noticed I've got about 4 months left until my license expires.
How soon should I be looking to send off my FAC, baring in mind I'll need it for buying ammo, specifically a batch of 5000 that I fought to get and don't want to really send off my FAC before they are on there for fear that they'll take them back off.
I also have 3 moderator slots and a .22lr and .223 slot unfulfilled that I sent off for about a year ago that I'd like to keep. I'm being held up by the gunsmith I want to build the rifle as he's not making the options that I'm after just yet...
Advice appreciated.
Thanks
TG

For the first part ask the FLO what their turn around is at the moment, and they add a little time to play it safe.
Regarding the slots, justify that you still wish to have them, you've only had them a year so it shouldn't be an issue, my renewal I asked to keep 4 slots that I had open for 2 years and asked for 4 more, as long as you can justify it in writing it should be good to go.

to be on the safe side, I don't know how fast your force works, but I made sure mine was sorted at least 12 weeks before hand.
Re: How early to send renewal?
If you are under Staffs/West Midlands then they are currently running 5-6 weeks behind, my Mrs ticket expired early this month and she has been told it will be 5/6 weeks yet! (She sent her paperwork in early May! )
Not an issue for us as her gun is on my ticket too.

I have heard that West Mercia can be around 5-6 months!....not sure how true it is.

Re: How early to send renewal?
I was told that once mine gets close that I need to be sending in my renewal 5 weeks before to make sure it's covered. They've not suggested I need to be sending it any earlier.
As for having slots not filled... You've just not found the right rifle at the right price yet but you're still on the lookout so want to keep it on your certificate.

Keep hold of your current cert until the new one is ready. Send off your paperwork as soon as you can

Can I do that...? What do I send?Demonic69 wrote:Keep hold of your current cert until the new one is ready. Send off your paperwork as soon as you can
Re: How early to send renewal?
Just send in a 201 mate and advise them of the deadline and that you'll take in, post or destroy your current cert on grant or receipt of the new one.
Re: How early to send renewal?
My local force recommends at least 8 weeks before expiry date which I think used to be the ACPO recommendation. As Demonica says hold on to your current certificate until the new certificate is issued as per the suggestion by BASC.
