This is crazy was there really any need to report this to the police surly a quiet word with the owner would have sorted the problem.

yes, it's crazy, however, if the RFD suspected that the rod was removed, and that it was only temporarily attached to the pistol for "working on" by the RFD, perhaps it was the right thing to do by reporting them...? We don't have all the facts, we don't even know who the RFD was, or the owner of the firearm, and we still only have hearsay about what was wrong with it.

Could be the right thing to do, could be that the RFD is just anti-LBP and jeopardised his reputation for a personal vendetta. It's all speculation.

That might be one reason. It's not unknown for cops in search of headlines and funding to try and entrap RFDs.

We also don't know if there were any other factors involved.

Imagine if you will a punter comes into an RFD, starts asking questions about the best way to cut down barrels and re-crown, specifically pistols. Then produces this Long Barrel pistol with a wobbly-stick and asks if the RFD can do some work on it - what work - who knows?

There may be extenuating circumstances surrounding why the RFD felt the need to contact the police. I do love a good speculation though...

Not QUITE the same scenario...but sort of, which is why I mentioned the overzealous RFD causing the Mosin Nagant "OFFENSIVE WEAPON ATTACHED" bayonet problems: STILL fail to see HOW a fitted bayonet is an issue in Scotland but not the rest of the UK though!!

Thanks, so it's rather more "belt and braces" than say acceptable methods of attaching a crimped tube in an auto/pump shotgun. One of which is Loctite albeit of the industrial strength type IIRC.
