Shotgun primer legality query

Ok guys, so my dad is buying a nitro converion done by Anvil at the end of this month right, he's been preparing all the stuff in the mean time. So he asks a shop to hold some while he's on holiday, the guy who was answering the phone asked if he had a shotgun cert and my dad says no, its for a nitro conversion. The guy starts saying you need an sgc to buy shotgun primers and I'm thinking how do people with just fac's and section 1 shotties get primers for handloading and such. I thought it was ballocks what the guy was saying and he works at a reputable shop. How could someone be that ill-informed? Hell if this was the case why would shotgun primer conversions on muzzle loaders even be done?

Can someone tell for definite that this guy was wrong and there is nothing in law backing up what he said?

You only need to produce either or an FAC or SGC to buy 'primers'. What size they are is irrelevant AFAIK.

Its the same for people who only have an FAC but have a S1 shotgun, some dealers don't think you can buy shotgun carts with an FAC, they are however mistaken.

That's what I thought, they are not entered on, you just need to show the cert. If all else fails go somewhere else, but they're reputable so I can't believe that would be the case, if we get there and its the main fella we deal with (my dad's gonna take his kindle to show them what he needs them for) he'll likely just sell them and apologize. I just needed someone who knows a bit and I guess the section 1 shotgun's prove that you are able to buy them for what you use them. I mean if all you do is practical or target and you have a section 1, why get an sgc?

2.51 A shotgun certificate is not required to possess or acquire shotgun cartridges containing
five or more shot, none of which exceeds .36 inch in diameter. All ordinary shot cartridges
are covered by this description. However, a shotgun certificate (or firearm certificate
authorising possession of a section 1 shotgun) is normally required to purchase shotgun
cartridges. All single bulleted ammunition, for example solid slug, spherical ball or
projectiles for birdscaring equipment, is subject to the requirement for a firearm certificate.

I believe so, but they are still not recorded, you just need to show certificate for legitimate intent or something like that. They are still not recorded, lord knows no rifle primers I've ever bought have been. It just appears to be ignorance from someone in the trade Brad.

My Gun Dealer states that he can legally give primers without seeing certificate, he can then charge you say. . 40 odd quid for car parking. Believe me, this Guy knows his stuff.

That is correct also. And an FAC is a valid certificate. I don't know how anyone could read that any other way, what a joke.
