Shop-a-gun-owner police hotline will be relaunched

#1 Post by Gaz »

The National Police Chiefs Council has admitted that despite the public backlash over its discredited “shop-a-gun-owner” hotline, which was abruptly dropped last year, it will be relaunched under a new name.

From the same set of meeting minutes it also looks like NPCC/ACPO want to ban MARS action rifles. Aux armes, citoyens!

How successful will they be in trying the ban the MARS? I own one and this affects me. What should I do?

Honestly? I don't know. The minutes are very, very brief on that point - in fact I might as well copy it here. This was in relation to the Charlie Hebdo murders:
Recent attacks in France:
Martin Parker provided an update on questions that had come out of the recent incidents in France.
Action: Martin Parker to review classification with regards to the MARS rifle.
Again, these minutes date from March. We're now in July, so 4 months down the line nothing visible has happened.

I'm thinking they might go to the Home Sec and whisper in her ear "Charlie Hebdo terrorists guns are available in the UK, ban them now!" or some such drivel.

So those nutjobs had illegal full autos and they think that would be an excuse to ban them. Do you think they might have been shot down already? I half get the impression that even the home office might have lost a little patience with them. Do Scott and Feroza know about this twaddle?

I seem to recall them years ago wanting to ban LBR's and 50BMG's and not getting their way so things might go the same.

Couple this with Yardley and MARS owners will be fecked....!

How the press have let "Continuity ACPO" get away with their rebranding, but remain unchanged, is beyond me. A private company influencing government policy?! It's like Tesco being responsible for Trading Standards...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

I keep getting ACPO and its fellow travellers moaning at me for calling them the police chiefs' trade union. Continuity ACPO, though, I like that!

I understand some of their functions were moved sideways into the College of Policing, but their core business - deciding what laws to enforce and making money from selling citizens' personal data obtained from police computer systems - was left alone.

I'm a MARS owner Sim and not happy, what's my recourse from this point on? I only ask as I don't want to be out of pocket, knowing of that bit of the law that says firearms that didn't exist before the 1988 act can be banned and no money given out. What is my recourse at this stage?

The fact that they are allowed to do that ought to be a national scandal.

It looks like it already happended in Germany

Seriously though this is a bloody farce **** ! Just how do these police impersonators get away with so much drivel. As Sim and others say, they are a PRIVATE company (Common Purpose???) calling themselves police.

Maybe we should give them competition and call ourselves "police"............ and get a load of S5's to play with!

"UK POLIS" and "We're the Polis" is available to register at Companies House - as is "BRIT COP" etc!

You can see the headlines: "Faced with a terror attack the Brit government immediately disarmed the law abiding people while being unable to decide on bombing ISIS due to lack of aircraft and balls"!

Ironically that's added to the total of working Panther's in existence.
