Just a general question, but is there a rule
about sounding people out to see if there
is an interest in a rifle or rifles without actually
offering them for sale?

I don't know, but I can't see why there would be.
"I have a xyz MkII" etc etc. "What do you think it's worth?" etc. Sounds OK to me.

Re: Sounding people out?
Ultimately it depends on the post and how I perceive it.
If it looks like a for sale post, or what usually happens it turns into a for sale post by the nature of the replies, then it will be put in here and if it is in here it will need a fixed price or will be removed.
Why would you make such a post anyway if you weren't thinking of selling it?

I have a minor dilemma in that I have been offered a job
in a country where gun ownership is not permitted.
If I accept I will need to Store the rifles, loan them to
somebody or sell them, unless I have another option?

Then if you want to go the for sale route then advertise them here and wherever else you deem appropriate and see what response you get.
If you want to know what they should be put up for then google is indeed your friend.
Still it is a market place and value is usually set by the buyer unless there are reasons like rarity and desirability which then make it a sellers market.

You can get a reasonable idea of the value of your rifles by looking at the likes of Gunstar, Guntrader etc for rifles like yours.
