Precision Rifle Tuition/Courses

#1 Post by River »

Does anyone know of any UK based precision rifle shooting courses/tuition please? I currently shoot sub MOA with my 308 at 100 and 200m without much problem, but feel that I could still learn a lot from a good instructor to improve my consistency and accuracy. Appreciate any suggestions :good:

The NLRC has just built a complete reloading room.

We will start offering courses from August - after the Imperial

They will be Starter and Advanced relaoding course with full practical hands on elements

They are part of the development programme in F-Class that includes

You're already shooting sub MOA at 100 and 200 which is the extent of your clubs range, yes? And is that every round you fire?

It would strike me you already have the basics. Move out further and translate those skills already acquired. If you're limited to 200 and want "more", get a different rifle...

But you could very well be entering the realms of diminishing returns looking to improve on what you already achieve, at the given ranges, with your given equipment.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Very little that I'd recommend but I think you are spot on in looking for tuition. There are a few instructors around but I haven't come across one I'd say is near the same calibre you will find in the U.S. You can learn a lot from some of the F-Class shooters when it comes to wind / reloading etc but if you are looking for anything more dynamic ie UKD, movers, elevation, positional etc then I'd save your pennies and head stateside. For example, there is someone in the UK charging £600 for a days tuition. For that money you can get a 3-5 day course at K&M, RO, SM or T3 from some of the best precision rifle instructors on the planet. There is some talk about a couple of those instructors coming over to teach a regular course in the UK but it hasn't happened to date.

I have recently gone from 200 yds to 300 yds and then to 600yds (in same day) by the help of a couple of F Class shooters. Best way is make friends with competent shooters. In some ways its a leap of faith in your own abilities. The 200 to 300 was not too different but 600 looks a long way off for the first time. I have a Remmy 700 in .308 in an AICS with a Vortex scope, I used match grade PPU to keep things simple. Managed to score with each shot with four V's. Learnt alot about dialling in the scope and wind effect, which in my opinion can only be done in the field.
