been waiting for an opportunity.... Ok, so why was our range given this by the NSRA?

I can't answer for the NSRA other than that is the uninformed tosh that an amateur organisation like that spews out.

So if we read row two in column indoor you can only shoot centrefire pistol/carbine ammunition at 1705 FPS for a ME of 475ft/lbs but you can shoot centrefire rifle on the same range at 3280fps for a ME of 5160 ftlbs.

If 3280fps/5160ftlbs is the maximum for your indoor range then anything shot within those limits is good to go firearm type is irrelevant. Your home office approval, if you have it defines type and that is usually small bore, full bore and muzzle loading.

So if you shoot a "pistol" calibre that is over the limits in row two you are in breach of the range certificate even although the range is cleared for up to 3280fps for a ME of 5160 ftlbs.

Looks to me like the documentation of lunacy.

Stupid, irrelevant and meaningless documentation from a small bore organisation that knows a much about full bore as my arse knows about snipe shooting.

that's what we all think of it too! But, we have to adhere to it, as it's what we've been given.

I was also puzzled by them saying we can't use certain rifle types on a No Danger Area Range, even though, to my understanding, a NDA range is the safest type?

but I doubt the range will still be there in two years anyway

Just have a look at these factory MVs and MEs for pistol calibres.

357 magnum and 44 magnum loads exceed the limits for "centrefire pistol/carbine" but in reality are quiet safe for the range, I suggest that you ask the NSRA to explain this daftness to you.

What if you have a condition like I do at the moment, whereby I can only use firearms and ammunition that does exceed the range safety certificate limitations?

That applies to all of us, we must all adhere to the limitations of the range certificate for the ranges we shoot upon.

At the end of the day the lesson here is don't get a Mickey Mouse organisation like the NSRA to do your range certification as they are obviously not fit for purpose.

luckily its an outdoor range, so we have the higher limit.

well we did try to question it, this is why this email reply was sent in the first place, unfortunately for us, Mr A G Aitken grew weary and then just ignored us.

asking what the difference was between a rifle and a carbine was also met with silence, as we "are not permitted to fire rifles on the range, apart from .22 and .177HMR" although we can use carbines. but I can't find the exact quote on that, i think it was something along the lines of pistol caliber designed carbines, but they won't define the difference so that we know. this is why i joined a new club.

i've pointed out that certain factory 500S&W would be within the limits, is a pistol cal, and comes in a carbine flavour...

oh, and they won't let us use pistols, as we could swing out over the side of the range with it. but we could use a 12" barreled ruger 10/22. or any blackpowder pistol we like, even cannon, it's madness!
