https://ukshootingnews.wordpress.com/20 ... l-sort-of/...the act of learning to shoot in Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a criminal offence carrying no less than life imprisonment.
You’re off your rocker, you tell me, dear reader. Come on, you’ve completely lost it this time, haven’t you?
I haven’t. From section 54 of the Terrorism Act 2000, I give you this:
All shooting training in the UK is illegal

Teaching others to shoot (or even being taught to shoot) is presumed illegal by default in the UK, meaning you can be arrested and imprisoned before trial and be forced to prove yourself innocent, rather than prosecutors having to prove their case against you. And that's in law.

Re: All shooting training in the UK is illegal
No wonder some gun clubs are iffy with new members when they've got the chance of life imprisonment simply for ensuring the person knows how to handle a gun properly.
Come to think of it, there were 3 young lads turned up to our clay club last year who got some instruction and 2 of them had pretty long beards.... glad it wasn't me that loaded their guns for them or told them how much lead to give the clays

Just another case of "guilty until proven innocent".
One day, all laws will be like this if we don't put a stop to it...

"All shooting training in the UK is illegal" only if you quote out of context.
I mean ffs I'm parked in front of a sign that says "tanks are prohibited" so does that mean that the UK army are breaking the law?

The context is terrorism - The only time it would be a problem is if you knowingly taught someone how to shoot, who you knew or suspected was linked with terrorism.
Re: All shooting training in the UK is illegal
We don't teach how to use firearms, we only teach safety in connection with firearms.

Remind me never to go down the butts if your club's on the firing point!BamBam wrote:We don't teach how to use firearms, we only teach safety in connection with firearms.

Re: All shooting training in the UK is illegal
Bit sensationalist for you Gaz, while I don't disagree there is a presumption of guilt, you might want to have made clause 5 clearer.
"It is a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section in relation to instruction or training to prove that his action or involvement was wholly for a purpose other than assisting, preparing for or participating in terrorism"
"It is a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section in relation to instruction or training to prove that his action or involvement was wholly for a purpose other than assisting, preparing for or participating in terrorism"
Re: All shooting training in the UK is illegal
I guess this is just another law which reflects politicians and the public's ignorance of target shooting especially. You only have to look across the Irish Sea where there is legislation in the works to ban all 'practical' shooting disciplines to see where we are going next...
