Spoke to them on the phone. Sounds like it's just sitting in the pile. The guy I spoke to said the person dealing with them had 70 on her desk and was working through them in the order they came in. He had an air of world-weariness about him that kind of suggested he gets a lot of grief over this. It was a struggle but I refrained from complaining, it's not like it's his fault or would achieve anything.
I bet if they wanted to talk to me they wouldn't be satisfied if I told them I was busy and I'd get back to them when I had a window in my schedule.
Wasn't the NRA collecting figures on crap performance at one time? Wonder if they still are.
I've come to expect that sort of terminal sluggishness for a renewal but I foolishly thought they might move just a tiny bit quicker on a straight-forward variation.
Just out of curiosity, once you have sent in the renewal what does it actually involve once it reaches the relevant department issuing the renewals. By that I mean do they do all the background checks again? Visit to check home security? Just wondering why it takes so long is all.
In Michigan the system for a Concealed Pistol Permit has changed. The old system was that a renewal was handed in to the County Clerk and then it waited for the the next county gun board meeting which was held once a month after which you went back to the clerks office to pick up the renewal. That system has now been scrapped, we now still hand it in to the County Clerk but they now send it to the State Police HQ down in Lansing the State Capital who do the background checks to make sure all is still above board.
I'm told this is the job of three staff down in Lansing. My wife recently renewed hers, she handed it in to the County Clerk on the Wednesday and on Tuesday the following week her new permit was ready to be picked up. Lansing deals with hundreds of renewals each week/month and does it very efficiently, I'm just wondering why it takes so long in certain counties of the UK.
Avon and Somerset are very efficient in my experience I just went through the whole variation procedure for the first time. 5 new calibre's sent in RMSD on Monday got a phone call Wednesday and received it Saturday.
Complain to your MPs, oomans. You're paying for a service you oughtn't need to, and not getting a fair return for your money. If you pay for a TV license, you get tv programmes. If you pay for a fishing licence, you get the NRA stocking rivers for you. If you pay for a firearms / shotgun licence, nobody provides you with a range and ammunition do they ? The least they can do is issue you your paper promptly and smile whilst doing it. The DVLA manage that with a turnaround time of 5 working days and they administer 23 million drivers and about 31 million vehicles per annum.
