I know 1 case-and probably only one up to now,when UK shooter transferred .22 rifle from Poland on this basics included in the letter-but it was NOT walk in the park...but problems where only on the continent-bureaucracy...big way...

Dont care(or you can do it for me pls)-lost so much nerves in this case,was helping only-my attempt to bring rifle failed completely...

If you're importing from another country within the EU you don't need an import license for section 1 or 2 firearms, all you need is a certificate of transfer (transfer license) from the originating country/dealer and the relevant authority to acquire/possess on your FAC (empty slot) or in the case of section 2 a valid SGC.

BTW, in my experience a lot of sellers from abroad will not sell and dispatch without the import license. Regardless of valid slot on FAC.

It is not easy when the law is not clear on the matter. I have read conflicting words in different documents.

As above, regardless of Europe being a 'Global village' there is a very high chance that a person selling the firearm in Europe will not be granted a permanent Export licence until the authorities have sight of original copies of an Import licence and possibly also an end user undertaking. I have first hand experience of this requirement as we do import and export firearms in and out of Europe and further on a fairly regular basis.

Yes I know what Roy Smiles says is going to be correct however that cuts no ice with the authorities in the EU countries I have dealt with to date.

Twice in the last ten years I have purchased rifles in France and brought them back with me. On both occasions I had the relevant space on my certificate beforehand and I sent scans of my documents to the dealer in advance to ensure that he could have all the arrangements in place at his end. It was a simple matter of inspecting the rifles and trying them out on the range and then just handing over the cash.
I then declared them at U.K.customs at Calais but they weren't really that interested other than ensuring that I had a FAC for the rifle, however they did take a few simple notes "just in case".
I then signed them on to my certificate myself when I got home (on the instructions of the FEO) and formally notified the Chief Constable of my purchases.

P.S. In the distant past several of our club members did the same with pistols that they had bought in Spain or the U.S. while on holiday there.

what christel and ovenpaa saying is OVERINTERPRETATION of EU directive,this is very easy for seller/transfer country do it this way-for simple reason,all a***s are covered there....but as chapuis wrote-it is possible to do it RIGHT way,thnx-jb

Polemass you are absolutely correct and my take on things is our Open Import Licence (OIL) is not even required for any EU imports however it is always asked for and I have even been told in the past that an Export licence could not be issued without sight of our OIL
