It certainly gives you a different perspective.
Personally, as a young infanteer I had a few issues with the A1 LSW (crow canon)
Since moving across I have been astounded by the level of stupidity easily achieved by the average British serviceman.

So Mr ordnance, what's your actual hands on experience of the L85A2 or for that matter the M16A2, M16A3, M16A4, M4, C7, C8, HK416, HK417, L1A1 etc? Please enlighten us?

The A1 suffered well documented issues that were mostly addressed with the A2 HK upgrade and the system is still subject to further development and modification under the FIST project. The A2 works and it works well, all systems have their faults and anomomolies; if a sailor, soldier or airman looks after his L85A2 as instructed and in accordance with Pam 5 it will serve them well.

There is no replacement for the L85A3 on the table at present, that doesn't mean though that it wont be replaced at some point in the future.

And this is still funny and even more so given that more recent posts. clapclap

I had a broken firing pin on a live firing section attack with an L85A1. The firing pin is now better - I am a happy man, all those that are casting aspersions are angry on other people's behalf - just like grumpy old men - when the jobsworths become officious.

That's a bit rich coming from you, sitting on the sidelines saying you find posts funny, without any examples or explanations of what you find funny about them. And then ask others to give examples.

I've had numerous stoppages with the A1, with the A2 I've only ever had one and that was due to damaged feed lips on a magazine that I should have checked before I used it.

So Mr Ordnance, what's your expeience of the L85A2? We'll forget the rest until you've had a chance to wikipedia them. ;)

I appreciate all your service as someone who never served (I do not believe I am wanted in the Army, my medical conditions make it not feasible). But I have done my reading and the problems were legion, never acknowledged, in some cases hidden. That is not the society I want to be part of. I want right done by the men who will allow me to sleep well when they do violence on my behalf. I know you all have your quirks, but I still feel an acknowledgement by people who should do this that we could have done things better be in order.

I'm going to pick a side here and be on Ordnance's side due to him being quite straight with me. You ok with me on your side Ordnance?

I Have shot both, but I have not put 30,000 rounds through one I was just making that up. Reliability is the most important factor in an military rifle but not the only one. The SA/ 80 is now after years problems and millions spent a reliable rifle. I didn't like the weight, poor balance, bad ergonomics, etc. If people want to argue that it has being a successful design on lots of different levels that's up to them. But if the question was put to experts and firearms manufacturers to name the top ten and most used and successful military rifles issued in the last 40 years the SA/80 would be well down the list.
