why do you like shooting?
Sorry if this seems an odd question but why do you enjoy it?
Yesterday I shot 250 rounds at Melville and had a blast but when I try to explain to my Mrs why I enjoy it I am lost for words. I pay a large amount of money to make a bang I can't hear and put a hole in a piece of paper I throw away. Doesn't sound logical!
Any thoughts?

Marksmanship. To become better at putting the hole in the centre of the piece of paper that gets thrown away (or entered into competition and marked). All in the persuit of becoming a better shot.
And the bang factor helps

Why spend a lot of money on food? You'll just end up s*** it out and literally flushing it down the toilet [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]
For me, I enjoy seeing myself improve by learning new techniques and advice. Getting the most out of your rifle by making handloaded ammunition, socialising with other like minded shooters, an excuse to get away from the missus, the list goes on!

Because I like guns...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.

These two pretty much sum it up, as well as the social aspect and getting out of the house for a bit.Charlotte the flyer wrote:Calmness

I like it because I can personally better myself and I can
be as good as I want for little cost. Its funny how people
judge shooters and fail to understand the technical skill
involved.
I recently had a conversation with a golfer and he was boasting
about putting a 1 1/4" diameter ball in a four inch hole, over 300
yards away. I told him I put a 3/8" diameter lump of lead in a similar
sized target at a 1000 yards.
If he got a hole in one at 300 yards he would have to buy the club
all the drinks, at the rate I do it, I'd be bankrupt.
OK, maybe I miss more than I hit but I'm not admitting that to a golfer :)

I am a gun owner because I like guns, simple as that.
I am shooter because when I shoot nothing matters except sight picture, breathing and the trigger, all problems, worries etc... disappear for that time.

Every time I go to the range, I try to improve on my last efforts. If I can, that's great, but if I can't that's even better, because it means I need to go back again for more practice!
