Your question should have been "Why are sound moderators classed as firearms/licensed?"

S.57(1)(c) a Firearms Act 1968.

The various firearms acts, amendments to the acts and the Home Office guidance are available on line. I think it's the BASC website has a really handy consolidated firearm act PDF. Download them, print them, read them. Even if you don't know the Acts verbatim at least you should develop a working knowledge and do will at least know where to look should you have a query or need clarification.

You need to realise that the vast majority of firearms offences are strict liability offences. Your intention matters not. "You've got it?" You're guilty. "You did it?" You're guilty. "You didn't do it?" You're guilty. And the vast majority of firearms offences will carry prison time, regardless.

I'm not looking to teach anyone how to suck eggs, most of you are intelligent, professional individuals with a strong ethic reliance and resilience. Very, very few would embark on reloading without a couple of manuals and the data need, so why embark on the path of gun ownership without knowing the law? And we're not talking about a tiny, not often encountered matter!

Get to know the law.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Cannot be anything to do with the Eu seeing as they are prohibited in many countries. Firearms laws are not subject to Eu control.
Also that the EU wanted sound moderators serial numbered.

I've always thought that the strangest aspect of sound moderators, is that if they're integral to the design/gun (fixed - not removable) then they don't require separate listing/ppermission to acquire.

Hence a DeLisle .45 is just a .45 rifle.

One has cunning plans to modify a .22 Buckmark to have an integral/fixed moderator.
Just working on plans; as need the inner baffle system to be easy to remove for cleaning...but the outer to be permanently fixed in place.

Already been done, but the other way round. "Baffle tower" of an SAK pinned and brazed to the barrel then the outer is removed to clean.
