Don't send variations until April! Fee increase is official

#1 Post by Gaz »

It's official, the fee increase that we all know about has just become law. Kicks in from Monday 6th April, assuming Labour doesn't try to have it struck down. Variations are going down from £26 to £20.

There's other news today about fees and reviews of fees and stuff - basically we're going to get annual increases which may or may not be inflation linked, plus there'll be a fee review in 12 months time which could lead to another big hike if the police play the tactical game.
The table below, drawn directly from Statutory Instrument 2015/611, sets out the fee increases for various types of certificate. Click to enlarge.

thread title edited cos everyone else spotted the obvious thing wot I didn't, doh.

Is there something not quite right with that table? Coterminous renewals?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Yeah, something doesn't quite sit right. I'm presuming all of section 11(3) is listed as a "top up" fee, so as an SGC and FAC holder will I pay £62+3 or £49+3 for my renewal?

Or has someone not quite thought through the effects of having different SGC and FAC renewal costs? wtf

It almost reads like it's cheaper to renew an SGC and grant an FAC than renew both together?

Looks like the coterminous renewal of both drops from £10 to £3....so add that to the FAC renewal fee?

Wait, I'm being an idiot.

Grant FAC and grant SGC = 88+2 =£90
Renew FAC and grant SGC = 62 + 28 = £90
Grant FAC and renew SGC = 88+ 2 = £90
Renew FAC and renew SGC = 62 + 3 = £65

In other words, it does actually add up properly. Nothing to see here. The wording does seem a bit muddled though- how many people actually go for grant of one at the same time as renewal for the other?

And why not just say "coterm renewal of SGC and FAC = £65", rather than this "add £3 to something that's not quite defined" thing- presumably to try and make people think they save £7?

I have to say the most alarming thing, given the political trends in this country at the moment, is the prospect of continuous future increases. With the drop in variation costs I'd expect to come out slightly "ahead" over the course of a 5 year co-term renewal cycle.

I did, last renewal of my FAC.

same as all those folks that have SGC's that get into sec1 shooting.

one thing i notice though;

coterminus renewal of SGC and FAC, is that paid for with the FAC or with the SGC renewal? SGC is written first, so i'd assume that was first.....

so is it SGC co terminus - £49 + 3

or FAC co terminus - £62 +3 ?

i know which i'd be paying for

Annual reviews and increases, we have been shafted yet again.

See what the cost will be in five years time.

Our national bodies "negotiated" and agreed this on our behalf using the threat of a Labour government as a reason for acquiescence but absolutely no assurances that Labour won't hike it all up again anyway.
