WRONG!

http://www.apachearms.us/2.html .....Just scroll on down the page a bit for Russian Military. Then if it's a Tigr (hunting rifle) your after just pop on to Gunbroker and you'll find them there. Despite what you think or have been told there are more than a fair few Russian SVD's over here, all un-neutered. As I said in my last post, fella at the club has three of the things.
Blu, there's a difference between an SVD and an SVDS, you're confusing SVDS with plural of SVD.

I know the SVD is available in the States, I'm a member on a US Dragunov forum.

Let me explain this next bit to you slowly so you understand....the SVD has been imported into the States in the past and can be purchased by US shooters......(ok so far?)......The SVDS is different from a SVD (notice the extra "S"?).........The SVDS is the paratrooper version with a sidefolding stock, a pistol grip, a thicker receiver and a shorter thicker barrel with a short flash hider fitted.......the SVDS version has never been imported into the States as imports of Tigr/SVD rifles were banned before the SVDS entered production. Some SVDS replicas have been made in the States by guys buying the rear section off a deac SVDS with the folding stock mechanism and cutting the rear off a fixed stock receiver Tigr and welding the two bits together.

Ask your mate with the three Dragunovs if he can go into a shop and purchase a SVDS......

Fixed stock SVD, folding stock SVDS (the extra S is for "Skladnaya" or folding Stock)

If we all didn't bother with neutured guns - then "they" have won, besides, it's what's available, there's a demand for it, we don't enjoy the popularity of shooting sports that the US does, we don't have the manufacturing base that the US has so we're stuck with it, so of course the yanks can get all het up every two seconds and act to prevent xyz gun control they don't like - we can't as you well know as there just isn't the support - it sucks, but it's a fact of life.

They have already won and your wonderful NRA and all the other shooting organisations as well as the sportsmen themselves did nothing about it. The lack of numbers on the handgun petition is proof in itself. You guys are your own worst enemies, if you think I'm wrong then the next time you cock your SVD to chamber the next round you think on it.

Well I put the first half of that statement down to you the sportsmen, especially when I read on here comments about staying in the shadows and keeping under the radar. The second half of that statement, well I can only think that if the UK didn't have such pathetic laws in the first place the US manufacturers might then have seen a viable market and exported more goodies your way.

You said it mate, the yanks don't let the government get away with anything without a challenge. You say there isn't the support, I disagree, how many FAC holders are in the UK? The supports there, the problem is your shooting organisations and the sportsmen themselves can't get their $h1t together to do anything about it, that or you're all too frightened to do anything about it.
a quick check of gunbroker shows yanks bidding 5 grand (dollars) for SVD's (PSL / vepr isn't an SVD)

Yeah but it's UN-neutered mate :D I will say though that I agree with you on the price, who in their right mind would pay 5 grand for pig iron?
that tells me that yanks are paying with their nuts to get an SVD.
Nick, and if you could have semi auto how much do you think you'd be laying out for it?

Like I said mate, if it floats your boat then crack on. It wouldn't be me though.

Happy shooting guys.

Okay I just gave the guy (Mick) who owns them a call and he has two Izhmash SVDS (he sold one) and he says one is a pre- 1993 receiver which he says you'll know what that is if your a druganov fan. Dude, I have been here a very long time and I have seen more than one or two druganov rifles with both fixed and folding stocks on the ranges here. To say they were never imported into the US at any time is simply wrong.

They are around mate, they are called "pre-ban" rifles. Same with SLR's, you can get them, big money, but only because they are pre-ban.

So by that logic perhaps we shouldn't bother and take up golf or knitting or something then???
Nope that's not what I am saying or implying, given the choice between a neutered job or a good bolt action rifle I'd take the bolt action every time. Then there's the fact that you can hunt with a bolt action over there without some member of the public wetting their panties as opposed to hunting with a druganov which might cause them to do so. That has been pointed out on this forum all be it a different "military looking"rifle was mentioned.
If all I can own is a straight pull Dragunov or AK etc then I will as my interest in Russian firearms extends beyond how fast they can fire.
If you say so mate.

Someone on this thread has a very argumentative, aggressive and unhelpful tone to their posts.

It's not going to help them enjoy their time on the forum.

Perhaps they just need a cup of tea and a hug.

You know, that should have been a PM to the person in question, or perhaps it's not my job to moderate tell people they're being really shouty. I suspect my smug liberal posts will just make him more angry.

I'm off to weave myself a new gun slip out of yoghurt.
