correct bullet weight for 30-06?

OK following my post the other day about correct calibers, what weight bullet is correct for a 1903 Springfield A3?

I've done a bit of googling and 150 seems to come up but there seems to be lots of differing opinions.

If anyone is reloading for one of these I'd appreciate some input

For the period, US issued Ball ammunition was restricted to training & Stateside use only.
The Americans classed the battlefield of the 1940's as an armoured battlefield, so the primary issue 30-06 ammunition was the Armor Piercing round...the M2

The normal ball round used a 150-gr bullet

I use both 155gr & 168gr smk's in both my .30-06 rifles

New M1 garand will be 155gr

1903A3 Remington 168gr get excellent results with both.

The fitted sights will be regulated for the then issued 150-gr bullet

I have some of both kicking around, along with Vit N140, roughly what charge weight ? Its only for plinking at 100yards

Well, I have listed a starting load of 47.5gr for N140 with 150gr bullet, that's what I will be starting with, I'm no expert but you may need another powder if you want a lighter load.
