West Mercia did my most recent one-for-one in three weeks and I posted it on Christmas Eve so that three weeks included the Christmas holiday as well.

Quite the variation in times nationally, and yet they expect us to tolerate an increase in fee's....

It wouldn't take in increase in fees to get all these forces to use the same criteria and process now would it?

Nor would it require e-commerce clearly, as some forces are clearly capable of a quick turnround without it (as in, turn up and while you wait).

Update - after calling on the 3rd Feb (which led to this post), gave them a week and called back today.

My variation has moved from the pile accruing and is in the "managers" office being dealt with today, I was offered and accepted the offer of a phone call when it's ready.

It looks like all told - it'll be 4 weeks start to finish, which compared to other forces is both quicker and slower........

I wonder what other variations in performance exist from force to force, in my capacity as Joe Public I'd expect the same service from the Police regardless of where in the country I reside.

The performance seems pretty much consistent between Cheshire, GMP and Lincolnshire when it comes to speeding cameras in my limited experience over the last 20 years - funny that innit.....

Your bloody lucky, I get nothing done in Northamptonshire in under 10-12 weeks.

I took my FAC and variation form in to the Police station 5 weeks ago for a one for one and one additional firearm. I haven't even had a phone call from the FEO yet.

I sent this email to my FEO two days ago and have not received a reply: -

Hi David,
As you are aware, I shoot on a weekly basis and every week I take my firearms out of Northamptonshire to Leicestershire and Warwickshire.

I am now concerned that after 5 weeks I have heard nothing in relation to my request for a variation and I realise that It is an offence for anyone to be in possession of a firearm without the appropriate authority.

I would therefore ask for a temporary permit, issued under Section 7 of the Firearms Act 1968. to ensure that my continued posession and particularly conveyance of my section 1 firearms does not put me at odds with the law.

Update - called today and my ticket is ready, one calendar month to the day.

Not too bad compared to some other forces but sadly 4 days too late for the shooting show, so now my new purchase is probably bouncing around in the back of a TNT 7.5 tonner on it's way to my local RFD

Posted mine off on a Tuesday to Lincolnshire Police HQ for a one for one swap, and got it back on the Friday. Though Ive heard many wait far longer.
