Taking a rifle to Spain

#1 Post by ratters »

I have finally been persuaded to retire and we are going to live in Spain. I can't take my 7.62 as military calibres are illegal, though you can have a .308 for big game. I don't quite follow the logic!
My question is about taking my .22 target rifle. I have got a European Firearms Pass for it but I don't know if this sufficient on its own. I will have to apply for my Spanish licence once I am there. Does any know if this is enough or is more paperwork needed? The Spanish police website has lots of info on applying for a licence but nothing about importing a rifle.
The police here and the NSRA couldn't advise me. Any help would be much appreciated and if anyone is looking for B & B near Vejer de La Frontera from April onwards they will welcome. At very reasonable cost!!

Can't you change your 7.62 into a .308? I've done this for all my target rifles for similar reasons.

I suggest that you get in touch with the Spanish F class shooters that come to Bisley each year for the European champs. I am sure that Mik Mak at Dolphin could assist you.
And as Rox said, change all references to 7.62 to .308. Military calibres are prohibited in large parts of the world but 308 isn't.

reproof it as .308 , strike out the old 7.62 proof markings and get your fac changed to reflect that .

I will probably put the 7.62 onto a friends FAC so they can bring it to Bisley, if I can get back to the Imperial meeting. I haven't yet discovered TR in Spain, but I have seen F class. That might be an option for me in later years when the eyesight gets worse!
