suitable scope for a remmington 700

#1 Post by honda chris »

Hi I'm looking for some suggestions regarding a new scope for my remmington 700 .308
S&B and night force are a tad out of my price range.
It currently has a leupold mark4 6-25 I'm running out of adjust at 600 yards.
I can shim it to add 20-40 moa
But my .223 requires a better scope so i may put the leupold on that.
I like plain milldot scopes. Do leupold make and scopes that zoom out to 32 or 50xmag?
I seen a sightron but I don't know much about them.
I thinking 50x mag as if it's good it may end up on a .50
Thanks.

Chris

I have both the 8-32x56 and 10-50x60 Sightron S111's both with target dot reticle. I think they are probably about the best value for money on the market, complete with a lifetime warranty.

In my opinion the 8-32 is good enough for anything you'll need from a mag point of view, if I was buying another one I'd go for the LRMOA reticle with the lines. IIRC there is 75MOA of elevation which is enough to get you out to 1000 yards even without a 20MOA rail although my Remmy is fitted with one.

Have a look here at the options available.

What Alan said.

The target dots are ideal if you wind the wind on and off the scope.

IF you fancy some practical type shooting consider the LRMOA as it has MOA hashes (or anything that aids aiming off etc).

Good scopes, but lightweight so they wont take the abuse of an S&B, but if you treat them normally they are very good value and work well.

It's important to remember that if you choose a scope with a MIL based reticle that the turrets are also in the same units (MIL).

Doesn't make a lot of sense to have a mildot reticle and 1/4 MOA turrets.

Conversely, choose a scope with an MOA/MOA based system.
