"Nice work on the average by the way... 12 months in and at 97-98 average is impressive." - not quite that good :). Started shooting just over a year before I got my FAC..

"I've heard", "might", "intend", "I'd like", "I thought".....

I'm not sure you've satisified "good reason" as far as the FEO is concerned. It might be a "nice thing to have", the authority to acquire 5K rounds, but it sounds like you're thin on evidence.

One question to satisfy my own curiosity. What rifles are you currently using with what brand of ammo?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

I'm up to 11,000 .22 on my ticket now. Justified by the fact that I normally pick up batches of 10k at a time for my club from a RFD for my club and the application was supported by a nice letter from my club chairman.

My last 4 FAC's have came back from variations with errors on them, anything from missing guns to coping the guns i have in the 'Firearms Possessed' section into the 'Firearms to Acquire' section, effectively authorising me to re-buy all of the calibre/type guns i already have :good: lol

As long as the main item(s) i've asked for are there and there's nothing thats going to get me in trouble or cost me another £26, i don't bother even bringing it up until the next variation/renewal teanews So if your force is as inaccurate as Durham it might be a simple mistake, and in Durhams defence if they do ever refuse something the FLD manager rings me up beforehand to explain why they haven't given me what i've asked for.

N.B. You're not supposed to be able to have more than one FAC at a time (although this has happened to me because of Durham troutslapping ) so they wouldn't send you a new FAC while you've still got your old one, however you can get them to ring you when the new one is ready and then go and switch them over at the HQ, i've done that a few times.

My first FAC came in an envelope with my correct house number on the outside and an error in the house number on the FAC itself. I still don't understand how they could enter one number and handwrite the correct one on the outside!

It's probably a cockup rather than a conspiracy.

I'm currently using an Anschutz 2013 TR with Lapua Centre-X for my TR shooting.
I'm using a Sako Finnfire Varmint (My fathers) for Benchrest with Lapua Centre-X.
I'm using HK416 with MiniMags also.

Now I (finally) have my ticket back I'll be ordering a Custom, hopefully very accurate Semi-Auto rifle which I will want to match ammunition to the rifle to make it competitive and replace my HK416 (one for one) for a bolt action rifle for benchrest so as not to be reliant on my father being around to shoot competitively at benchrest, again wanting to match ammunition to the rifle. - Yes at this stage it is an "intention", but I'm not sure how wanting to be competitive s just a "nice thing to have".

Whenever I submit any kind of variation I enclose a letter with all my good reasons for the changes and then at the end I put a bulleted list entitled "to summarise" with a list of exactly what to add and remove from the current certificate. I find this helps the poor sods with a metric ton of licences in front of them and half the staff they used to have. Hopefully you'll get a new ticket back soon with the right bits and bobs on, good luck!

I did this SF. Didn't work. - I even went so far as to convert the variation document to be an editable PDF so my handwriting would not be an issue. my request was typed. As was my accompanying letter.

FEO called me up (last month). I explained my good reason and he seemed to understand where I was coming from and said he would pass on the conversation.
Just got off the phone with them, again I had to explain the situation and good reason. The guy is now chasing up the FEO to get more information.

They're dragging their heels.

Again I was told that I should keep a log of all the ammunition that I use at the club, on my certificate. Now I'm not sure if what I was told in the first instance is correct, so feel free to educate me, but I was told when I first got my FAC the ONLY thing that you write on your own certificate is your signature. So why am I now being told I should record everytime I buy ammunition at the club (and leave it at the club) that I should be writing it on the certificate so that they can see how much ammunition I am buying.

When I explained that the club keeps the records, and I have access to the records, the guy I spoke to still seemed adamant that i should be writing it on my certificate.

The moderator seemed to have been left off by the FEO, as a mistake or intentionally was unclear.

From the 2014 Home Office Guidelines on Firearms Licensing.

Chief officers of police should also consider the “good reason” for possession of
ammunition quantities for target shooting. Allocations of 1,000 rounds, to possess,
purchase or acquire, are not unreasonable for most regular shooters. A serious target
shooter (for example in a county or national squad) may reasonably wish to possess up
to 6,000 rounds to ensure consistency in performance between batches. In exceptional
circumstances greater amounts may be required. These figures should be used as guides
only and should not be interpreted as absolute limits. This is normally applicable to .22RF
rather than full-bore target shooting. Economy of purchase (‘bulk buying’) is not considered
satisfactory as “good reason”

I'm sure it was an error that will be resolved...

Interestingly on my initial grant that came through just before Christmas the moderators were omitted. I dropped a nicely worded email to the FEO asking if it was a refusal or a mistake and the very next day an amended FAC arrived in the post with an apologetic letter. Cracking service rectifying the mistake from N.Yorks goodjob

Good luck with chasing yours down!
