Filling in the variation form.

Looking at the variation form 202 I've downloaded, it appears that there is only one form.
Reading through it, it appears that there is a section where you list the firearms you are "disposing" of. But not a section for to list the empty slot you wish to do a one-4-one with.

Do I just put the information for the slot in the "disposing" section?

I recently submitted a "one-for-one" to swap a .303 slot for a .308. I put the .308 in the "to be acquired" section and eplained the "one-for-one" in the notes.

When I did a 1 for 1 on the new form I put my "authority to acquire xxx caliber" in the "Disposing of" bit & what I wanted to swap to in the "To be acquired" bit.

When I did one recently I also enclosed a covering letter explaining what I wanted to do so they would be in no doubt.

Plus 1 for that, always summit a detailed covering letter with the form explaining exactly why you would like the ***, it will help speed things along believe me.

The fact is most Force FEO's are seriously snowed under these days, so if they see your form and they don't understand why you require whatever it is, it will go to the bottom of the pile, until someone has the time to contact you and get more info.

I have recently sold a rifle and wanted to keep the vacated slot, a.22. I filled in the form 202 with the item sold and also put a.22 in the "to be acquired" section. I also enclosed a covering letter detailing what I wanted to happen.

What I was not expecting a couple of days later was a phone call from the firearms office saying that I had not put my existing vacant slots for a .303 and a.308 on the form 202 and did I want to keep them on the FAC?

I did not realise that completing a new form 202 required me to itemise all my existing vacant slots, and by not doing so, I would lose them.

The person who phoned was very pleasant and amended the 202 on the phone, so hopefully all is well (I have not had the FAC returned as yet.

That's odd, I've never had to do that. Maybe they're just being diligent, have the slots brb empty for a while?

Both the .308 and .303 slots has never been filled.I have only had an FAC since early 2013.

I did not get the impression that the fact that I have not as yet used them was an issue. Just that I should put them on the 202 whenever I completed a variation.

That is a very interesting point.... Just about posted my variation today.
I think I will phone them on Friday and ask about all this.
