You could always suggest that the new members or probationers pay a reduced fee (and no range fees) then only pay the rest upon conversion to full members? That way folks could find out if it's for them without dropping a ton on something that may only be a passing interest, and once they are hooked they'll gladly pay the rest :)Racalman wrote:One of my clubs is looking at ways of encouraging new members and were wondering if the fees are too high

We've just started doing that (£30 joining fee) but they still pay green fees which are fairly high (a morning on an MoD range is £20 plus ammunition).Kungfugerbil wrote:You could always suggest that the new members or probationers pay a reduced fee (and no range fees) then only pay the rest upon conversion to full members? Does the club own the range building or is it rented?TattooedGun wrote:£55 going up to £60 per year membership + £3 per session

I believe we own the building, but the land it sits on is leased...Racalman wrote:Does the club own the range building or is it rented?TattooedGun wrote:£55 going up to £60 per year membership + £3 per session

Re: Target club fees - how much do you pay?
Very interesting discussion as several years ago I undertook a study of what I could find online to compare my Home Club rates with similar Clubs and facilities. 25 yards indoor rimfire and Gallery rifle. 50 and 100 yards outdoor, club room etc. with ongoing improvements. Annual subs are £ 105 for full adult and this covers all targets, entry to Team competitions throughout the year and no green fees. From my research a few years ago as I mentioned earlier, this is in my opinion a pretty good deal when comparing with those that have lower subs but then the extras of daily or weekly green fees and targets etc.
Full bore Club £ 25 per annum plus green fees at Bisley - in this case the subs really just cover NRA affiliation, Bisley Club affiliation Locker rental etc.
So how much does it cost for a 3 hour walk waving a stick around and chasing a ball ? I think shooting is on the whole a damned cheap sport particularly when you look at the ability to shoot smallbore throughout the year for somewhere around £ 2 per week plus ammo. OK FB costs have risen but when comparing to other sports you can use the same equipment year in year out and you dont have to have any ludicrously naff clothing or the requisite Jaaaag for the Club house car park !

£55 a year subs and £6 green fees. We use an outdoor RFCA range.
Re: Target club fees - how much do you pay?
£75 per year subs and £2 green fee.
We have no ranges of our own, but rent a gallery range each week.
Also we shoot at Bisley once a month, with the charges split equally between those who shoot.

OK, I've had a good look at all this excellent info and I feel another question coming on.
For those of you whose club has an indoor range, do you rent the building from someone or do you own it?
If you rent it do your annual fees cover the rent?
TIA.
