Shooting whilst FAC in for Variation...? Where do you stand?

#1 Post by TattooedGun »

Where do you stand legally whilst your FAC is in with the police to continue shooting...?

I have county cards to shoot whilst it's away, but I need my rifle to shoot them...

Can I still go or would it be illegal if I was stopped and couldn't produce my FAC..?

To my recollection you're ok, just best to keep a photocopy on you, so if you do get stopped you can produce it and the enquiring officer can check with the National Firearms something something database.

No problem, you still have a valid FAC you just don't have the actual document in your possession.

Yep, no need to carry your FAC with you - not required in law. However, a police officer does have the power to seize your firearms unless you can prove they are legit. Nowadays they can check the PNC to prove it, so you're all good.

That said a photocopy can speed the process if you get that far.

+1 on this
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Crack on! :good: Although i have been stopped by the police (well, actually by crashing my car   ) when i had guns with me, no certificate, on a Sunday so no FLD staff to contact AND the PNC was down  so the officer couldn't verify my details, it wasn't a problem. I'm sure a lot depends on your attitude, the circumstances and the officer. While it is technically an offence to not be able to produce your certificate, BASC claims that no one has ever been prosecuted for that offence alone.

It is not an offence at all.

A constable may demand the production of the certificate. That doesn't mean I have to have it with me - I can produce the original if the Officer accompanies me to my home, and a photocopy demonstrates under 48.4.2 that the person is entitled to those firearms.

So like I said, no offence not to have the FAC with me.

Does that work like driving licences, where you can "produce" it at a police station after the event?
