What's wrong with the US system. You are law abiding citizen (subject here) you WANT a gun - you go to store, they do a background check and you get one if yoiu are clean..what's not to want. Convicted felons are banned from owning firearms, just like here.
Crininals don't give a rats about laws so why should WE not have the same rights and freedoms as our US counterparts. Leave self defence out of it, why can we NOT have any firearm we want for sporting / recreational use?
They want to legalise Marijuana but criminalise handguns or full-bore semi autos.

Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
Chuck the USA firearms policy is too lax.
In what way?
Take handguns out of the equation then if you like (but we shouldn't) - why should we have to demonstrate demonstrate NEED?
The amount of training and facilities available in the USA is way beyond anything here, we could do well to copy them.

Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
Imagine if people in this country had to demonstrate NEED before they were allowed a car? The sales of faux-x-4s would plummet immensely! As would road-deaths. Can the same be said for our current firearms licencing system? It depends on whether or not you think most people are a nudge away from becoming a criminal.
Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
the antis won't have to get firearms banned we will do it ourselves :cool2: :cool2: :cool2:

Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
Chuck, in the US it is easy to buy a firearm and have no idea at all what you are doing with it. Or how to store it safely, or that it can be dangerous to family and certain precautions need to be taken.
Verification of those things is a good thing, and doesn't stop people owning and using firearms freely, it just helps prevent them being idiots. How many accidental firearms deaths are there in the USA? There are ways to prevent them without affecting people's rights.

Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
How so TackB? Logically the only way to get then banned is to make them more dangerous. The illogical ways are what the antis use.tackb wrote:the antis won't have to get firearms banned we will do it ourselves :cool2: :cool2: :cool2:

Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
You can do that in the UK as well.Chuck, in the US it is easy to buy a firearm and have no idea at all what you are doing with it.

And the proof of that is where mate?Imagine if people in this country had to demonstrate NEED before they were allowed a car? The sales of faux-x-4s would plummet immensely! As would road-deaths.
It may be EASIER than here, that's good. As for the other stuff: well I am not sure but what's the situation here if I have a friendly farmer and he wants me to shoot his vermin, do I need a club membership for that?? Or a shotgun, I took lessons before I got mine, yet someone on here recently was asked by police if he was taking SG lessons when applying for an SGC, which is rare - so that argument doesn't hold. In effect here you can buy a shotgun and say you'll be going clay shooting yet have NO training in shotgun use, where's that any different from the USA. Yes you need storage etc but someone can just as easy leave guns and ammo lying about in the UK - daft as it may be! And of cousre we do have hunting accident fatalities here too - accidents are they not?Chuck, in the US it is easy to buy a firearm and have no idea at all what you are doing with it. Or how to store it safely, or that it can be dangerous to family and certain precautions need to be taken.
How does ease of acquisition equate to accidents?. It's not that easy to get a driving licence but we sure have loads of accidents, many fatal and also irresponsible use ( Dangerous, drunk etc) involving people who are LICENCED to drive a car.
Accidents equate to stupid and lack of judgement or education. The NRA (USA) run a host of courses for responsible gun owners, it is up to the individual to get trained. The USA has training everywhere, not like here with our club set up. There are still more accidents with household appliances and swimming pools than firearms.

That's my point Chuck, unless you think everyone is borderline criminal restrictions only affect the law abiding
