More anti gun sh*t - this time from Sporting Rifle !!

#1 Post by breacher »

Have a look at this -

At 9.36 the voiceover refers to gun crime and shows a still photo of airgun pellets, a bar graph of statistics I assume and then a still photo of a rifle match held at Bisley !!

Mr Carr has just received an e-mail and I think more should be sent - its this sort of "my sort of guns are ok but other sorts of guns should be banned" attitude that makes it easier for the anti's.

I wonder how they feel about pistol calibre carbines ? Or about those of you who have an interest in Lee Enfields and such military "weapons" ? I imagine practical shotgunners would have them very upset.

Please make your views clear to Mr Carr - its time that we all realise that we are all shooters, despite our chosen firearms or clothing.

Hello

Regarding your "Shooting Show" on youtube - the episode entitled "Red stag double and Irish foxing" ;

I found this to be an interesting, informative and well produced video. Until it reached the bit about gun crime that is !!

At 9:36 minutes while referring to gun crime, a still photograph of a competition was shown. This was a "Civilian Service Rifle" match held at the National Shooting Centre in Bisley. It is the fastest growing UK rifle competition and I shoot it regularly.

Do deer stalkers really regard other legitimate sportsmen as criminal purely based on the clothes they wear or the firearms they use ?

I should be very grateful if you could, in your next video, make it clear that the CSR shooters pictured are in fact legitimate sportsmen who have legally held firearms and are in no way connected to the criminal use of firearms referred to in the voiceover.

Please send me a link to the new video as I look forward to viewing it and sharing it with my fellow CSR shooters to reassure them that we are not regarded as criminals by your chosen section of the shooting community.

Kind regards,

Brian Reacher

It was the same in '88 and then later in '97. The spirt is riddled with nasty little men who will gladly sacrifice one part of the sport to try and maintain their own. Some are embedded within the national organisations.

Churchill said, "There is no greater fool than he who attempts to appease the crocodile in the vane hope that he will be eaten last"...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Having just watched the video, I don't see how them talking about crime reduction and gun crime figures falling is really anything to do with the pictures in the background. They're not advocating that those sportsmen are crimes - just looks like some "filler" photographs underneath the talking. The overall message DURING those pictures is positive. that gun crime is falling. Why would they back that up with Negative images of crimes themselves. More, lets show some positive pictures of shooting, whilst we talk about how the level of gun crime is falling...

Although this is just one mans opinion...

I'm with Tattooedgun on this, but obviously i'm looking at it from a shooters eyes, rather than imagining the possible correlation a non-shooter watching it may make.

I'll be interested in the response though as in my own experience most of the 'i'm alright Jacks' come from the game shooting community :bad:

Nope - I don't buy that.

Sporting Rifle is all about stalking and associated shooting. If they wanted a "filler" photograph, they would have no doubt had a library of "sporting" rifles to use.

They used a photo of "black rifles", "military clones" or whatever the current term is, in one part of the video only and that was where crime was being discussed.

Anyway, no doubt the man himself will e-mail me back to explain why that particular photo was used during that particular voiceover segment - especially when such rifles seldom if ever appear in his videos.

Let's be honest.

How many non-shooters are going to sit 10 minutes into a video about shooting game...?

Well, where sporting shooters ( the intended audience I assume ) are concerned, it is reinforcing ( in a subliminal manner at least ) a prejudiced way of thinking.

And a divisive way of thinking. It can only reduce both "sides" support for each other.

I see where you're coming from, and I can see why you'd think that, but I just don't see that this would make any real difference to be honest.

Are the same people going to see falling charts as being subliminally bad, or pointed pellets..?

Again, it's a positive story about crime falling. none of the other photos indicate any negative images, which would to me show that it is a positive picture of law abiding shooters, with a positive narration about gun crime falling.

Much Ado About nothing in my humble opinion...

That news piece begins with a photo of airgun pellets with the voiceover; "over the last 10 years gun crime has reduced by more than half".

I suppose a dedicated air rifle shooter could complain that the image of pellets is being used to illustrate gun crime, but the reality is it has nothing to do with the words being spoken and neither does the photo of the CSR shooters.

I suspect whoever was editing that piece just didn't have enough relevant material to use as a background to the voiceover and just bunged in some stock photos they happened to have at the time.

As Blaze Publishing are behind The Shooting Show, why not speak to the NRA who's journal is also published by Blaze and see what their opinion is?
