Good digital calipers

I've got three sets of calipers:
1. Mitotoyo vernier that cost me about £50 twenty-five years ago
2. Lidl digital that were a tenner or something
3. Chronos dial calipers (http://chronos.ltd.uk/acatalog/Dial-Calipers.html) £15

All three measure the same thickness to be the same if I do my bit properly.
My eyesight is fading, so unfortunately the verniers are becoming hard to read. I'm probably not the only person here in that boat . . .
The Lidl ones eat batteries

+1 for Mitutoyo dial calipers. Got mine off ebay for 20 quid a year ago. Very accurate and the dial glass somehow focuses the numbers so i don't need my reading glasses.

I have a selection of verniers but none dial or digital, now with aging eye sight I think as an engineer the dial way is best unless you are spending a lot of money. I'm not convicned the digital remain accurate over time

The Mitutoyo calipers I use are calibrated they come with a calibration certificate. I have used them for years and I have never known them not to be accurate. They are the only game in Town as far as I am concerned.

For some reason ( I'll have to ask him ) my brother chucks out his digi calipers every so often and buys new ones!

You can always modify the Mitutoyo ones to add Bluetooth, larger display etc too

I was a toolmaker for five years when I left school, always had the "buy the best you can afford" mantra when buying kit, my imperial mics were all Moore and wright, the metric mics starrett, and my mitutoyo dial "guessing stick" went through cal year on year. Still have all my kit, first choice is always a mic, much better for feel. However, my beautiful guessing stick went missing years ago and I miss it still! If anyone finds a set with Matt Roe spark eroded in the back I want them back!

My Mitutoyo calipers arrived yesterday and I have to say I'm impressed. The build quality is many times better than the cheap calipers, although interestingly... they seem to be just as accurate as each other. The new calipers aren't as sensitive to movement, which I have to say I prefer, it gives me a bit more confidence in what I'm doing.

I did notice they'd switched themselves on in the box when I went to use them later... I wonder if this explains dromia's battery issue.

Mitutoyu dial calipers can be had reasonably on ebay. Both mine (metric and imperial) were under £20. No batteries party2

Unfortunately there are quite a few counterfeits on the market these days!
