Favourite current or future wildcat
Are there any wildcat cartridge shooters on the forum and if so what are they and what is your favourite, maybe you do not currently shoot a wildcat however have plans for the future. We have shot wildcat cartridges for many years in this house and I often muse over what to build next and I would be interested to hear any thoughts on the subject.

303 Pygmy, just waiting for the reamers to arrive.
I'm also waiting on a 303 Epps rifle.

Both look like fun. Something based on WSSM or maybe neck the 8mm Hungarian down to a 'proper' 8mm or 7.62 - just for the ease of reloading.dromia wrote:303 Pygmy, just waiting for the reamers to arrive.

My 257 is fun - easy 3000fps with a 100gn bullet. :shakeshout:

With necessity being the mother of all invention....To enable my TRG 42 to still be HME eligible at Bisley and similar ranges, I run a slightly modified 30-338 LapMag (A.K.A. 300 Lapua). While officially not a wildcat, since it's CIP approved, no one has ever commercially manufactured the rounds beyond development stages:

With a 31"+ barrel I'm safely running 230's at up to 3050 fps (although more comfortable at 2,850 fps), which from a 100y zero equates to drops of 9.25 MOA @ 600y, 21 MOA @ 1,000y and it goes subsonic around 2,000 yards smile2
Great fun and it fits in a .30 cal template on LFTTA ranges, usually offering more options on targets over a .338 or bigger. Accurate barrel life I'm hoping will be around 1,500 rounds...

Re: Favourite current or future wildcat
I did wonder about the .17/50 BMG (aka .17 incinerator) as a possible 100 yard sniper round. It required about 200 grains of N140 and only made about 9999 fps before the chrono gave up.
So I figured it wasn't much of an upgrade over .17 HMR.

You would love the .17 Giraffe, slightly more sensible....Individual wrote:I did wonder about the .17/50 BMG (aka .17 incinerator) as a possible 100 yard sniper round. It required about 200 grains of N140 and only made about 9999 fps before the chrono gave up.

I must admit I find either 6.5x54r as used in Vostok Biathlon rifles quite interesting, as well as the 7.62x54r Improved

I assume the .303 Pygmy will be a re barrel. Would it end up as a sporting rifle?dromia wrote:303 Pygmy, just waiting for the reamers to arrive.

The .303 Epps do they just recut the chamber or is it a complete re barrel. There can not be a lot of .303Epps rifles out there.
Re: Favourite current or future wildcat
I have a 303 Epps and the reamer and die and it is virtually just a matter of running the reamer in to the chamber and gauging it to confirm it is correct.

Re: Favourite current or future wildcat
Has anyone tried a 7mm bullet and the 54R as the parent case?
