NRA Survey on Handloading

I will be grateful if you could take 3 minutes to complete the attached survey -

BTW it took me longer than 3 minutes just to list the calibres I handload for, none of which were on the tick list indicating to me that the questionnaire was constructed from a very narrow shooting knowledge and/or experience base.

That is because they live in a very small shooting world.

I know that the viruses I received came directly from NRA email servers, apparently from compromised accounts of staff members.

I know that in the past the NRA have distributed email addresses of qualifying shooters to team captains/adjutants freely, as appears to be the case here, to be used or abused as those persons see fit. I have many examples of the address lists being abused.

I know that the NRA have shared my email address with hundreds, if not thousands, of other individuals on many occasions through appalling privacy practices and exceptionally poor information governance.

Rox - the examples you give were several years ago and were down to human error on the part of a couple of ex members of staff. You rightly complained and practices were changed and safeguards put in place. It doesn't happen any more.

If there are currently compromised email accounts there have you reported it to the right people as that does seem more serious.

I very much doubt this survey was commissioned on a whim and I would certainly expect to see some changes being implemented.

Sadly if this does happen this is probably about as far as the consultation period will go for the vast majority of us.

Yep it will be another risk management issue with the MoD and the NRA will implement it onto shooters. I suspect that seeing that the NRA has no influence with anyone any more they will be told what the MoD will require to cover their backs, implement it or don't use MoD ranges.

I am so glad that my shooting options are now free of the need for MoD ranges as I can see us being moved of them sooner rather than later.

Stil, as Mercer told us in the last NRA journal that progress is being made with the MoD so you shooters that have to use MoD ranges should have nothing to worry about.

Rox - the examples you give were several years ago and were down to human error on the part of a couple of ex members of staff. You rightly complained and practices were changed and safeguards put in place. It doesn't happen any more.

The 'solution' that followed my request to not have my email and personal details shared, and to not receive unrequested commercial marketing emails from third parties, appears to be that I was put on a global 'opt out' list, so I no longer receive news or other NRA email such as this survey (things I actually want). This is not what I would call a solution to the problem. I'm sure there have been other improvements, but I still rue the day I put my email address on a GR entry form.

I wouldn't know who the right people are, and after my experience (see above) I'm not particularly inclined to spend my time helping them solve their problem.


P.S. Don't get me wrong - I'm still strongly 'Pro'; they haven't turned me into an NRA grumpy (yet).

I do have 70 year old rifles, but most of mine are a lot older and none of mine have ever failed.
The survey is pathetically poor, but what do you expect? The NRA has, until recently, always been a Target Rifle club, based at Bisley. They have put up with other disciplines shooting at Bisley because they bring in much needed revenue. All this has changed---recent surveys revealed that Target Rifle is no longer the dominate shooting sport at Bisley and the new managment has inherited the problem of having lots of customers doing things that they don't really understand.
Don't blame them for trying to up-date and educate themselves, they are trying to take a professional approach, but sadly, they are not competant to do it yet and they are still learning who to ask for help.
