More MOD sillyness
Shooting at Ponteland today and our RCO starts the briefing off with a new MOD requirement.
We shoot at the older type target boards (the ones raised up from the butts on steel frames and pulleys).
New MOD rule (as told to us by Otterburn), a maximum of 3 targets per board (approx 4x5 feet?) no smaller than about A4 size and to be lined horizontally and spaced close together across the centre of the board, no dots or anything else only those.

Re: More MOD sillyness
My old Gallery Club had the opposite rule
NO targets to be spaced horizontally...otherwise you end up with a postage stamp effect & the top half of the frame eventually falls off

Nice to see all this progress the NRA is having with the MoD, as reported in the latest copy of the journal, is bearing fruit on the ground.

Strange thing is, apparently last shoot they were told to space them vertically only.
Maybe they are alternating between shoots?, anyone else had this recently?

Three Counties had a trouble free shoot on the same range this morning!
I blame Jonathon for your grief!
.
I think the latest fuss is to obviate a (non existent) problem of shots being deflected over the butts.

Re: More MOD sillyness
Indeed, I believe there was mention of the possibility of hitting someone behind the butts if the shot was off the board entirely, surely that's why we have range safety templates and sentries posted, or am I missing something obvious?
EDIT. Just looked, 3 Counties were on A range, we were on B range, wonder if that makes a difference?

Great if you're sighting in a new rifle/scope(!)
And if the target must by greater than A4 in size whats to stop you putting an A0 sheet over half of one side of the board and covering it in small dots to shoot at?
The MOD really do LOVE pointless BS rules tesnews

Re: More MOD sillyness
Mark, target has to be around A4 but not larger, at least two shooters (who you know from PSG) were not happy as they'd brought A3 or A2 size targets!.

Re: More MOD sillyness
They weren't the only ones, I had made up an A3 OCW target :(
St George had no problems in the morning, but we were using the 600 yard targets

Re: More MOD sillyness
Even if you're forced to use an A4 target, you could still put a dot in each corner and shoot it that way
Actually i'd best not push my luck or we'll end up having to buy specific MOD approved targets from them :cool2:
The whole thing is a joke considering the state the forces often leave our boards in when they've done machine gun practice, have any NRA members raised this issue?
