Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a barrel band with a qd stud for an SMLE, I do not want to fit an normal qd stud as this would ruin the original stock.

What rifle? Full military stock or sporterised?
The short answer is no, the rifles were all produced with standard bands and standard sling swivels.
Parker Hale, AJ Parker and many other gunsmiths went on to produce sporterised conversions of the No1 and No4, and they usually used standard gun trade (mostly Parker Hale) screw-in sling swivels. These screw-in sling swivels are sometimes replaced by screw-in QD studs.
If for some reason you really need QD studs on a military stocked rifle, then its a matter of machining/adapting the studs to fit in place of the sling swivel - ie drill a srew hole and grind the sides thin enough so that you can get correct tightening of the band. On the rear butt swivel, obviously the stud just has to fit the swivel base plate - there is no critical tightening as with the mid band.

Rearlugs,
It is a full military spec SMLE onto which I have put an non drilled scope mount so that I can let my registered blind son shoot it.
With the limited sight He has and the use of a high mag scope He needs to have the rifle rested. He is used to a bipod on the other rifles He shoots so that was my first option rather than a rest bag.
I do not want to alter the original spec as I enjoy shooting it that way and that is why it has non drilled scope bases.

Could you not get a spare band and have the gaps widened, then have a QD stud threaded portion flattened and drilled to fit between the gap like the front sling swivel on a No4?shotgun sam wrote:Rearlugs,

It would not matter that much that it was not tightly held as long as the band held the wood in place because the clamp holding the bipod cradle on only needs to be pulled tight against the wood.
Re: qd stut on an SMLE
Maybe a small band clamp with a base and Harris type stud would do the job, something like the straps on the Magnetospeed maybe? I would be easy enough to fettle and super quick to fit or remove with no changes to the rifle. Downside is potential changes to the point of impact.

Jubilee clips, the shooters friend.
Handy for all sort of firearm improvements and up grades, scope mounting, fixing broken stocks, tightening up actions with worn screws, knock a couple of 6" nails through one and you have an instant clamp on Bi-pod, easy to blue etc. The only thing holding you back with jubilee clips is your imagination

Re: qd stut on an SMLE
Did you ever get sorted out with a bipod adaptor for your Son. I use this its a sling swivel stud with the threaded bit ground off then both sides are filed flat and a hole drilled through so it fits under the front barrel band. On my No4 I just remove the bit that holds the front sling then attach this. I put a piece of leather with a hole in it between the stud and the Harris bipod to protect the wood. I reckon it would work with a smle as well and you can return it back to normal in minutes.
