Adjustable cheekpiece
Hi all,
I've bitten the bullet so to speak and taken the plunge.
I removed the stocks, marked up where I wanted to cut, and went for it.
I polished up some m8 stainless bolts with the hex heads cut off to use as the posts.
I used some m8 rivinuts in the cheekpiece, and some m6 stainless hex bolts with rivinuts in the stock to secure the cheekpiece.
Howa 1500 left side....

I'm going to change the hex bolts. I'm going to cut them off and cut a slot so they're flush. But other than that I think I've done an ok job.

Hats off to a guy with big balls, you have done a excellent job. I agree that the choice of fittings need to be improved upon but that's a small modification and given the quality of the cut and profile, I think you have done a great job....well done that man!

Re: Adjustable cheekpiece
Looking good Gary! When are you going to show your face at one of our McQueen's comps?
Re: Adjustable cheekpiece
Nice work tongueout - I'd love to be able to do something like that to my Marlin and Ruger GR rifles...
Re: Adjustable cheekpiece
vasbyt.skollie what was the process for cutting the wood, did you build some sort of fixture or blocks to keep the butt section parallel to the centre axis of the stock and was it easy enough to turn the corners? I have often wondered about such things however I have absolutely no experience of using a fretsaw.
Re: Adjustable cheekpiece
Hi Dave
I used a trued block of timber screwed to the butt to keep the stock "level". The scroll saw is very simple to operate and I only took one practice run sign01 before doing the stocks. I've never used a scroll saw before so it's a doddle, just take it slow. I did watch quite a few YouTube vids on fret/scroll saw operation to get the gist of it first though.
.
I got the idea from http://www.waveform.eclipse.co.uk/WEB%2 ... 0Piece.htm
Go on you know you want to...... :goodjob:
Thanks for all the great comments, I appreciate it :shakeshout:
