Apologies it is, my eyes aren't what they used to be and no doubt the Export didn't help my vision. :G

Kranks has 8x58R brass from Bertram @ £2.20 each!

Re: Reloading for the 8mm X 58R Danish
I am going to try loading 8x58RD with Black powder what would be a suitable hardness of bullet using mix of pure lead & tin. Though I also have to hand Linotype & wheelweights.
Thank's in advance for any replies.

Dromia I have been unable to find the 255g mould on Noe website was it a custom order or am I missing it?dromia wrote:My current load of choice is 35.5 gns of Vihtavuori N135 under a 255 gn Swede Nelson Mauser boolit, sized .321", BHN 14,

Re: Reloading for the 8mm X 58R Danish
The mould was a Lee special that Al had made before he went into the boolit mould business. I don't think it is any longer available.
I must get round to seeing if Al will do an NOE version.
Having loaded for a few of these RBs now I would strongly advise to to take an impact cast of the freebore of your rifle.
These can be on the generous side and if so a boolit should be selected to fit the throat, some of these RBs need a 338 boolit as a starting point.
I'd just add 1% tin to your pure lead, just enough to get fill out.
Any particular reason for the BP load, it was only used a s a stop gap 'till the smokeless round development was finished an they came online.
The BP round was a compressed load which I have found very difficult to achieve in a bottleneck case, the BP load was generating around 1500 fps with a 220 odd grain bullet so what velocity do you anticipate with your BP load?

You could make a Lewilson type neck die for it and use a neck bushing. I did it for 7.62x54.

David a version of the Swede Nelson original mould is done as a special by Midsouth shooters supplies.
I cannot testify as to the accuracy or quality of these moulds though.

Re: Reloading for the 8mm X 58R Danish
Dromia Thank's & il see if I can obtain the mould.
Will do a chaimber cast shortly, see the point about .338" start.
I am intrested in knowing the shoulder diameter of a case when full length resized in CH4D dies. I have a set of NDFS dies which size the case to the same dimensions as new Bertram brass so the shoulder expands .035" when fired, Ive had this rifle a number of years & had a few problems with case splitting "understatment" & have had to be a little creative with the dies, would like to buy a better set.
It is on my list of things to try & as it is the only breechloding rifle I have which I can shoot with BP at the moment.

Re: Reloading for the 8mm X 58R Danish
After slugging the bore & taking a chamber cast have found the groove diameter is .327"-.328"
I have to hand the Noe 340320 201Gr. FN & lee C329-205-1R il give them a try & also attempt to obtain the 8mm Max mould. Both will fit in the throat the Noe the closest.
Thanks to a gentleman on this board I obtained a quickload loading for this rifle using Jacketed bullets which gave the best grouping I’ve had, but due to having problems with case life will change to cast for smokeless loads to.
Dromia contacted Joe Thanks
