Importing guns from the USA

How big a deal is it importing a gun into the UK from the States New York to be exact. I have no knowledge of this kind of thing. I am guessing it will be more trouble than its worth. The rifle is a mint Arisaka 99 apparently it was a bring back at the moment its a wall hanger. We were chatting about it on TeamSpeak on another forum I visit and he asked how difficult it would be to send it to me. It made me curious to find out.

Seriously though, I hope you can get it sorted and share your experiences.
I did some research a while ago and importing seemed straight forward so long as you have a relevant FAC and slot. Exporting seemed to be more difficult but I think some people tended to over complicated things from an American legal perspective.
Can't you find a cheap flight? :-)

I know a gun dealer that tried to get on a plane, leaving the USA, with a few parts...
He was invited to stay there for a while longer and they even provided free board and lodging.

I imported one last year. Pretty straightforward and simple. Agents will do it for you and there are RFDs who will pick it up for you this end.

As TJC says, it is easy enough to do from our end, the interesting part is finding someone in the USofA prepared to go through the export side of things.

It's pretty easy. I've imported one complete and parts for two. Just google "FFL" and "export licence" and take your pick. You need an FFL in the states that has a licence to export. Then just go through the DSP83 paperwork with them (not hard or lengthly) then pay your FFL their costs Don't forget this end you'll have to pay shipping, import duty, VAT and shipping to RFD once it lands at LHR or wherever.

This guy does exports, his name is Brian Dicks and I have used him twice in the past to send rifles to Scotland without any problems.

I have had another Teamspeak session in the mean time with Nick in New York. I have known Nick for a age we both share the same interests.
(Nothing to do with shooting) another of the Guys in the group Cody works in a Gun dealers in the USA I am not sure how near he is to Nick. Any way some of the other Guys in the group seem to think it can be done. Most of them live in the USA or Holland.
(Our server is in Holland because we can get better upload and down load speeds not possible in the UK.)
I just checked the server Down load 309.33Mb/s Upload 285.52Mb/s.

Has far as I can gather it has never been fired it just hangs on a wall in some ones house. I talked Nick into accepting $200 dollars for it providing I can get it into the Uk. It will probably come to nothing but we will see.
