Nope - if you report a suspected hate crime to them they're duty bound to investigate it.

Incidentally, you could also report this shockingly racist comment to Brighton University, give it a month or two for the disciplinary process to do its thing and then send them a Freedom of Information request for the documents relating to the outcome. If Squires convinces them to whitewash it that would then explode into a proper news story worthy of the big papers. Imagine Squires' mugshot in the Daily Mail!

Whilst the police are investigating they could look into the issue of that replica pistol in his office as well

While being a good member of the fourth estate and trying to track down the minutes of the ACPO FELWG's last meeting in March 2014, I stumbled across the NABIS internal newsletter: http://www.nabis.police.uk/user_uploads/bulletin12.pdf

And look who's wormed his way in with them:
January also saw the first 2013 meeting of the NABIS Independent Advisory Group, a mix of independent advisors, academics, journalists and lay people with an interest in reducing gun crime and helping NABIS understand its role beyond normal policing boundaries.
For this session the IAG was pleased to welcome a new member, Professor Peter Squires from Brighton University, an academic with a history of involvement in interpreting gun crime.
I think I'll be talking to the NABIS press office in the immediate future about this group and its membership. The inclusion of tame journalists certainly explains the media campaign to demonise antique firearms.

FYI. Apparently Brighton University welcomes Korean students. In fact...
International officers and academics from the University of Brighton visit South Korea regularly

Perhaps University management or the International College within the University might want to be informed of Mr Squires statements?

Perhaps he has had the opportunity to make a real-life comparison and we're judging too harshly? I'm sure the current Korean students or alumni could offer their opinion...

In the interests of openness...

I've just had a chat with Brighton University's press office, after sending them the link to the Squires video a page or two earlier. They say Squires was quoting from the Shooting Times rather than expressing his own views. On the face of it they're right, if you listen to the offending video from about 32 minutes onwards.

I doubt he's quoting from a recent issue of Shooting Times - I'll rewatch the video again to see if he gives a credible reference.
