As far as I know you can't alter the final taper on the Lee Loadall as it's all fixed, well they are cheap I guess.saddler wrote:Sounds like ya need to sort out the final taper crimp adjustment....among other thingsPrimer wrote:Is this a new restriction on primed hulls as I've not had a problem in the last year and had about 5000 primed hulls from them via Internet orders ?phaedra1106 wrote:Siarm as said above http://www.siarm.com/index.php?cPath=2& ... cd55daafcc
Found them to be very good, delivery by TNT usually within a week, just convert their € prices straight to £ as they have a 20% VAT rate.
For some reason (I assume shipping restrictions) you can't place an order containing primed hulls on the web site, if you want to order them (which can work out cheaper) drop them an email with your list of stuff and they will generate an invoice for you, never seen any increase in the shipping costs though![]()
I've always chosen the TNT delivery option on my orders but they always come via DPD for me and the addition of their 22% vat does make it virtually £ for € after currency conversion.
I've tried star and roll crimps and various wads for my home made 28g Lee slugs with various powders
18.5grains of Red Dot or 21.5grains of Vectan AS and both give similar shot patterns and fps.
I find the roll crimp is a more consistent feeder than star crimp with my M2 but that could be down to my Lee Loadall not being the best as I find the finish on the star is not perfectly round and can catch on the edge of the chamber, I don't get this with roll crimps, my roll crimper was £14 off eBay and I have it setup in a variable speed drill on drill press stand, cheap as chips.

Re: Shotgun slug supplier
Just looked at the instructions...its designed to give a taper crimp if the wad height is correct
I think it does have some height adjustment settings too

Re: Shotgun slug supplier
Interesting- wouldn't a properly formed star crimp cover the centre point acceptably? I'll double check the slug manual on that although TBH it seems like roll crimping is definitely the way forward (and allows me to use Vhit powders, FTW).Primer wrote:If you think about where the centre point is on the slug head in relation to the primer on the cartridge in front in the magazine tube you don't really want something hard against the primer as there could be a slim chance of ignition in the tube and even a slim chance is not worth taking.zanes wrote:Out of interest primer, why wouldn't you star crimp those slugs? BPI list a fair bit of data for them. Decrimping under recoil?
How come you went for that design slug over a more traditional rounded style? What are you going to be using the slugs for?
Went for those slugs as load data is available both in my manual and online from the slug manufacturer; http://www.siarm.com/product_info.php?c ... ts_id=1786 are nice looking but data is non existent. Also seen some great accuracy online with them.

what loading manual are you using, the BPI one? Does it state what type of barrel they use for their ballistic data as you can use rifled slug barrels in the states that will be more accurate than our smooth bore.
Re: Shotgun slug supplier
Yep, I've got the BPI manual. They do talk about certain slugs being better for rifled barrels (particularly the sabot ones, IIRC) and I'm pretty sure they say these slugs are OK out of a smoothbore and not to use them with rifled chokes as it screws up the rotation the fins provide.
As with every new calibre, I generally write off the first 10 odd rounds as experimental whilst setting up the press etc.
Not sure whether to go with the BPI data (fold crimp with Universal Clays) or Gualandi with a roll crimp and Vhit powder.

Re: Shotgun slug supplier
Interesting enough BPI talk about the potential for primer hits in the mag tube with these slugs and suggest watching roll crimp heights carefully or "even fold crimping"
Order from Siarm now listed as dispatched :)

Re: Shotgun slug supplier
Hmm. Siarm order has now got "Shipment Rerouted. Recovery Actions Underway." listed on TNT tracking and there's a worryingly ambiguous order update on Siarms site which looks like a card transaction receipt but I can't make head nor tail of it.
Amount for the transaction is "missing" in my account but there's no actual transaction listed there.
Please don't tell me the silly buggers shipped it out without getting the full transaction through and have now recalled it....

Re: Shotgun slug supplier
There's no adjustment on the loadall 2, I checked this afternoon, it's all fixed and instructions say the only adjustment that can be made to the final crimp is by not putting so much pressure on the lever, I will have to practice how much pressure I use to see if I can get a better finish.saddler wrote:Just looked at the instructions...its designed to give a taper crimp if the wad height is correct
